What are the responsibilities and job description for the Art Teacher / Studio Lead position at University Prep Schools?
Position 1: Lead Art Teacher (0.70 FTE)
Primary Purpose:
Provide instructional leadership for the 8th grade art through curriculum design, direct instruction, assessment,
and oversight of student learning outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
● Design and maintain standards-aligned curriculum, unit plans, and daily lesson plans.
● Provide direct instruction to students three days per week.
● Develop and oversee all student art projects and performance tasks.
● Assess student work and maintain all grading responsibilities.
● Communicate with families regarding student progress, concerns, and celebrations.
● Monitor student achievement and adjust instruction as needed.
● Participate in professional development, department collaboration, and school-based initiatives.
● Provide direction and guidance to the Studio Lead regarding project expectations, pacing, and student
outcomes.
● Ensure continuity and quality of the school's Art program.
Position 2: Studio Lead (Two Days Per Week)
Primary Purpose:
Provide supervision and instructional support for students as they engage in art projects and learning
experiences designed by the Lead Art Teacher.
Key Responsibilities:
● Supervise Art classes during designated Studio Lead days.
● Support students in completing projects and assignments developed by the Lead Art Teacher.
● Reinforce project expectations, classroom procedures, and routines.
● Monitor student engagement, behavior, and work completion.
● Provide feedback to the Lead Art Teacher regarding student progress and project completion.
● Maintain classroom organization, materials, and studio procedures.
● Ensure continuity of learning between direct instruction days and studio work days.
Responsibilities Specifically Not Included:
● Curriculum development
● Lesson planning
● Student grading
● Parent communication regarding academic performance
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree and valid Michigan teaching certification with endorsement in content area
- Eligibility to work in the United States on a full-time basis
- Experience with project-based learning preferred
