Job Description
We are searching for a reliable Medical Assistant to perform various clinical and administrative duties to keep our practice running efficiently placing an emphasis on quality of care and customer service. Bilingual candidates preferred.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit.
- Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; reporting patient history summary.
- Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; completing diagnostic coding and procedure coding; keeping patient information confidential.
- Counsels patients by transmitting physician's orders and questions.
- Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
- Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
- Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications.
- Serves and protects the practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements.
- Enhances practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Interactions:
Interacts frequently with patients, clinic personnel and outside referral sources personnel by telephone, correspondence and personal contact.
Education, Work Experience, Skill Requirements & Certifications:
Minimum Education (or substitute experience) required:
- Associates Degree
Minimum Experience required:
- 1 to 2 year’s previous experience as a Medical Assistant in the healthcare industry required, pain management experience preferred.
Skills Required:
- Intermediate level skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, and in general data entry. Office Ally experience a plus
- Prior experience preferred in handling and balancing cash highly desirable
- Knowledge of all insurance types including HMO, PPO, and Private insurance, Medicare, Secondaries, Medi-Cal and Cal Optima
- General knowledge of healthcare insurance and terminology
- Knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, ICD-9, ICD-10 codes
- Positive and upbeat personality
- Must have excellent organizational skills and be detail-oriented. Ability to handle several projects simultaneously, prioritize work and handle last minute demands appropriately. Comfortable with interruptions.
- Proven success with working in a team environment and willing to help other team members when needed
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously without constant supervision.
- Excellent communication, written and grammatical skills.
- Customer service oriented.
Minimum License, Certifications & Affiliations/Memberships and CEU’s
- Valid California driver’s license and an insured vehicle in good working order.
- Must successfully complete a criminal history background check
- Medical Assistant, Billing, or Front Office Management certification from an accredited vocational school is preferred, but not required.
- HIPAA Certified
