What are the responsibilities and job description for the Business Development Officer position at University of Worcester?
This is an exciting time to join Worcester Business School as it continues to grow its reputation for meaningful external engagement, enterprise and executive education. We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Business Development Officer to play a key role in strengthening relationships with businesses and organisations, supporting programme growth, and enhancing the University’s contribution to its local and regional communities.
The Business Development Team has a strong track record of working with organisations across a wide range of sectors, delivering CPD and executive education, supporting placements and internships, and providing bespoke services in areas such as leadership and management development and business environmental auditing. The team also supports professional body accreditations and has recently relaunched the Executive MBA, alongside the successful delivery of the Government-funded Help to Grow programme to SME leaders across Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
As Business Development Officer, you will provide operational leadership and hands-on support for a diverse portfolio of external engagement activity. Working closely with the Business Development Manager, Head of School and academic colleagues, you will manage client relationships, identify opportunities for consultancy and knowledge exchange, and help develop sustainable income streams aligned to University strategy. You will also support executive education and CPD provision, contribute to alumni and employer engagement, and help maintain and develop key partnerships with organisations such as the Chamber of Commerce, enterprise agencies and professional bodies.
We are looking for a candidate with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of working effectively with students, academic staff, employers and senior external stakeholders. You will have experience of building and maintaining productive external relationships, identifying opportunities through a strong understanding of business needs, and balancing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. An understanding of the higher education context and the role of universities in enterprise and knowledge exchange is essential. Experience of KTPs, CPD delivery, accreditation processes or funding bids would be advantageous.
What's in it for you?
Please note that if not already an employee of the University of Worcester, the appointed candidate will be employed through our subsidiary company Uniworc Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of University of Worcester. Appointees of Uniworc Limited will automatically be enrolled into the Aviva FlexHE defined contribution pension scheme (subject to earnings and other eligibility criteria).
Please note that this post does not meet the minimum salary requirements for visa sponsorship under the Skilled Worker Route. We are therefore unable to consider applicants for this post who will require sponsorship to work in the UK.
