Job Summary:

Wisconsin Public Radio (WPR) seeks an experienced and dynamic fundraiser and manager to lead the Individual (Major) Giving team. The Managing Director of Individual Giving will work closely with and report to the Chief Development Officer (CDO) of WPR and PBS Wisconsin. Working with the CDO, this position will directly manage a team of gift officers and work with other units to advance the organization's mission through building relationships with and securing gifts from donors.

The Development Department works collaboratively to support the missions of WPR and PBS WI in serving the people and communities of Wisconsin with high quality media, events, and educational materials that educate, entertain, and inspire. Gifts and grants are our largest source of revenue. Units in the department include: Membership, Major Gifts, Legacy Giving, Corporate Support, Grants, Events, and Community Engagement.

Focusing on donors with higher gift-giving history and capacity, this position will work collaboratively to guide gift officers to: build and maintain a portfolio of donors, advance goal-oriented relationships, and to solicit and steward gifts respectfully and successfully. This position will also work directly with donors. As a team, we work to develop long-term relationships with supporters to encourage them to engage with our mission, make annual membership gifts, major gifts, and planned gift commitments. In addition to managing the budget and communications, working toward goals and meeting metrics, this position will make recommendations on strategic plans and new approaches in major gift fundraising.

Responsibilities: Develops, implements, and evaluates advancement strategy for the unit. Directs development and implementation of fundraising, public relations, and alumni relations strategy in support of strategic goals. Represents the unit to internal and external stakeholders to ensure success of advancement efforts.
  • 30% Directs strategic planning initiatives for advancement and establishes unit objectives to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative, and staffing resources and alignment with the strategic plan
  • 10% Serves as the unit liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups providing organizational information on business-relations issues, opportunities, and activities and representing the interests of the unit
  • 5% Identifies, promotes, and maintains external partnerships
  • 25% Delivers directed program messaging to internal and external audiences
  • 20% Evaluates advancement strategy effectiveness and provides recommendations for improvement
  • 5% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • 5% Works to unify the overall fundraising efforts of WPM by coordinating the goals and efforts of the Major Gifts group (WPR) with other development groups such as Major Gifts (PBS WI), Membership, Planned Giving, and other units.

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Arts or related field. Additional formal training and/or a certification in development would be considered.

Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in major gift and/or planned gift development including portfolio - management, performance activity metrics, the development cycle, and reporting.
- Experience managing direct reports, including performance management, coaching, and fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Experience using a donor or customer database (CRM).
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Organizational skills and self-direction to meet deadlines, track multiple projects, and carry out tasks independently.
- Experience communicating with donors and community leaders across communities.
- Working knowledge of common office software such as email, word processing and spreadsheets.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working with nonprofit boards of directors.
- Experience working with budgets.
- Demonstrated public speaking skills.
- Strategic planning or campaign planning experience.
- Understanding of membership-based fundraising.
- Experience in public media.

Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

This position offers some hybrid flexibility with a minimum expectation of 2-3 days per week on-site, after onboarding. In-person work will be completed at WPM's headquarters on the UW-Madison campus. In-person meetings and events may require additional in-person attendance. Events may include some evening and weekend hours. In-state residency is a requirement and fully remote candidates will not be accepted.

Minimum $95,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
Expected salary range for this position is $95,000 to $110,000. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications.

Additional Information:

This position requires some travel and the ability to work some evenings and weekends.

This position regularly requires travel within Wisconsin for occasional work assignments and other activities sometimes requiring evenings, weekends, and overnight travel. Please note, any driver must be able to be approved as a UW Authorized Driver.
