POSITION SUMMARY

As a clinical leader within UTP, The UTP Systems Director - Advanced Practice Provider is designated as a primary resource regarding AP recruitment, retention and ensuring clear scope of practice and responsibilities are outlined. Advises on use of recruitment tools and approaches and assists/participates in AP interview/hiring process. Develops infrastructure to networking, communication, and team building. Stays abreast of regulatory changes and impact to APP practice. Creates systems to improve communication and implements activities that increase professional satisfaction and retention of clinical operations. 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Participate as part of the senior leadership team in UTP; collaborate and offers expertise regarding UTHealth strategy and decisions in partnership with the UTMC, UT and UTP leadership. Functions as a subject matter expert regarding clinical operations and APPs. 
  2. Partners with clinical departments, provider recruitment, and compensation departments to identify AP needs. Collaborates with HR partners regarding job descriptions, ensuring grade and salary consistencies, advises on use of recruitment tools and approaches and assists/participates in AP interview/hiring process. Designated as a SME resource regarding AP recruitment and retention and ensuring clear scope of practice responsibilities are outlined. 
  3. Development and implementation of a comprehensive onboarding and orientation process that includes a transition to practice. Creates and ensures that credentialing/privileging criteria aligns with scope of practices.
  4. Partners with workforce planning and academic affairs, to align with APP programs in the region to facilitate student placement and preceptorship. Acts as APP liaison with schools to inform curriculum for successful transitions into workforce. 
  5. Identifies and communicates continuing education opportunities for APP’s. Develops programs, grand rounds, journal clubs, and other activities that facilitate learning. Partners with academic affairs to advance professional development. Fosters faculty appointment, development, and promotion. Develops opportunities and structures for APP clinical and organizational advancement. Identifies APPs with leadership potential and mentors their development of leadership skills. 
  6. Develops infrastructure to networking, communication, and team building. Creates milieu that supports professional partnerships, comradery, and strong group identity. Creates systems to improve communication and implements activities that increase professional satisfaction and retention. 
  7. Partners with clinical departments on building and monitoring quality competencies, documentation, and billing compliance. Utilizes innovative training environments to ensure clinical competence. Partners on annual performance evaluations and yearly goal setting. Participates on hospital quality council and work with APP team to optimize performance and value. 
  8. Maintains active clinical practice in area of specialty.
  9. Networks with state and national professional organizations and other health systems on emerging structures of APP practice and compensation models. Stays abreast to regulatory changes and impact to APP practice. Lobby for contemporary practice changes that advance population health. 
  10. Other duties as assigned in support of the UTP and UTHealth’s success and overall organizational mission. 


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Education
    1. Master’s degree or advanced degree in area of clinical specialty 
  • Skills
    1. Demonstrates ability to be a change management leader, through evaluation, development, and execution of strategies that impact the advance practitioner environment. 
    2. Demonstrates conflict resolution and negotiation abilities.
    3. Ability to communicate across all levels of management.
    4. Proficiency with MS Office 
    5. Proficient in Electronic Health Records.
  • Years of Experience
    1. 3 years as an APP
    2. 2 years clinical leadership
  • License and/or Certification
    1. State of Ohio Licensure – Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner
    2. National certification as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner. 
    3. BLS, ACLS certified.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    1. Additional relevant education or training in leadership

    2. Demonstrated ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks and produce output with a high degree of accuracy. 
    3. Demonstrated ability to influence multiple stakeholders to achieve organization mission.
    4. Demonstrated integrity and respect for others and values teamwork and collaboration in interpersonal interactions. Appreciation of cultural diversity and sensitivity towards community populations.
    5. Expert-level knowledge of EPIC and clinical informatics; extensive experience training front-line staff.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to move about the practice/department and between workstations.
  • Must be able to understand directions (written and verbal), communicate and respond to inquiries.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift or carry light equipment or supplies. 
  • Must be able to input and retrieve information from a computer. Primarily inside in well-lighted, well-ventilated areas.
  • Visual acuity of 20/20 or corrected to 20/20 including color vision when applicable.
  • Ability to hear with or without aids.
  • Ability to orally communicate.
  • Good manual dexterity.
  • Ability to push, pull, roll, and transfer/lift 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to stand, walk frequently.
  • Ability to bend, reach, stoop, and kneel frequently.
  • Ability to perform CPR (if required for position).
