Position Description

Primary Purpose And Essential Functions

The Conservatory of Music seeks an individual to coordinate music therapy student experiential learning and the provision of music therapy services at St. Joseph’s Medical Center (SJMC) and St. Joseph’s Behavioral Health Center (SJBHC) in Stockton, CA. The candidate: Must possess working knowledge of music therapy clinical practice standards and guidelines; Must be qualified and able to conduct clinical music therapy services as necessary to further clinical and/or research opportunities; Must be able to prioritize workload and manage multiple projects effectively; May assist with research projects as needed; Will maintain and complete all necessary clinical documentation; Must be willing and able to supervise music therapy students (undergraduate and graduate) and interns; Must be responsible for general office work as needed; and Must have good attendance and exhibit a sense of professional responsibility.

Funding for this position has been identified for two (2) years. Continuation of this position is based on the availability of funds.

Job responsibilities may include (but may not be limited to): Providing music therapy services to patients and families at SJMC and SJBHC; Evaluating the effectiveness of clinical services carried out at SJMC and SJBHC; Coordinating clinical services and experiential learning (for students and interns) with appropriate hospital personnel; Placing students and interns (including screening and evaluating appropriateness) from the music therapy program into clinical placements at SJMC and SJBHC; Supervising music therapy students and interns at SJMC and SJBHC; Evaluating student and intern progress; Conducting research projects; Teaching courses in the music therapy program; and Advising students in the music therapy program.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in music therapy or its equivalent is required (individuals who are working toward a master’s degree may be considered).
  • Knowledge of music therapy clinical practices in medical, skilled nursing, and mental health settings is required.
  • Ability to demonstrate music therapy-related skills and abilities (musical skills, therapeutic skills, etc.) is required.
  • Current Board Certification as a music therapist (MT-BC credential) is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Willingness to learn and adhere to University of Pacific Conservatory (including music therapy program) policies and protocols.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate a sense of professional responsibility.
  • Working knowledge of computers and other applicable technology.
  • Professional and/or internship experience in a medical setting strongly preferred.
  • Music therapy student/intern supervisory experience preferred.
  • Research experience is preferred.
  • Training in at least one area of specialized music therapy clinical practice (e.g., BMGIM, NICU-MT, NMT) is preferred.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Requires extended periods of sitting and repetitive hand/wrist motion while using computer keyboard and phone. Occasional standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, and reaching. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel

Work will be carried out in multiple settings: office environment, hospital units, and classroom settings. Work performed during standard business hours, with the exception of special events, meetings, and other activities scheduled on evenings and/or weekends.

Hiring Range $79,649 per year (We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.) Special Instructions
