Job Details:
Purpose
Serve as a math teacher for the UT High School District by designing and facilitating online courses, exams, and tutoring. Monitor student progress and communicate with students and stakeholders to ensure student success. This is a termed position through May 31, 2026 pending the continuation of funding.
Responsibilities
  • Facilitate online course instruction for secondary level students in a core subject area to ensure student success in courses in pursuit of a high school diploma or high school equivalency program. Instruct students through a variety of online methods, such as online feedback, facilitating online communication for student groups, and maintaining interactive and instructional course components. Provide corrective feedback to students that is clear, specific, and effective. Respond to students' needs and grade student work in a timely and effective manner. Demonstrate deep understanding of TEKS for each course and knowledge of lesson components for each course. Monitor student progress and grades, prepare reports, and determine recommendations for support to ensure student success in courses, exams, STAAR exams, and AP exams. Navigate a variety of technology systems for design, delivery, and communication. Maintain accurate student records, such as grade books and grade reporting with attention to detail, and meet deadlines.
  • Provide online tutoring and exam facilitation in a variety of formats, including synchronous, asynchronous, and in-person delivery. Collaborate with colleagues, use student data and research to drive decision-making and ensure instructional design and delivery is effective. Engage in required training and implement exam proctoring with fidelity and attention to detail. Review exams for irregularities and report to curriculum leaders to respond according to established policies. Recommend strategies to improve students' success. Prepare student support materials for tutoring sessions, study prep, and study guides. Proctor STAAR exams, Advanced Placement exams, and other exams as needed. Utilize a variety of technology systems such as Proctorio, Canvas LMS, Skyward, Box, and Mishell SIS systems to effectively deliver programs and monitor student progress.
  • Design and recommend lesson content, enhancements, and improvements that align to the TEKS and honors and AP standards, while working in coordination with campus and district leaders to ensure vertical and horizontal course alignment and consistency of student expectations. Prepare online course lessons, tutoring lessons, and exams that align to the TEKS, include scaffolding, and align with current research and best practices. Develop scope and sequence, study guides, reading modules, diagrams/graphics, and other lesson components to support students. Adhere to UTHSD style guide requirements and elements of effective lesson design. Meet deadlines for content development. Communicate effectively and coordinate all project work with the curriculum development team.
  • Support students receiving special services and special student populations, such as 504, special education, gifted/talented, emerging bilingual, military-connected, at-risk, adult learners, and others. Implement students' accommodations effectively in online courses, exams, and tutoring. Participate in 504 and ARD meetings to support students with special needs. Provide effective, clear, and timely feedback and recommendations. Communicate with students and parents routinely to support student success. Support student discipline and report any discipline issues to the administration as needed.
  • Engage in a variety of activities to support the UTHSD programs. Maintain current training in best practices and policies for your content area. Maintain active Texas teacher certification and adhere to the Texas Educator Code of Ethics. Support activities to expand and deliver UTHSD programs such as professional development, student recruitment, and marketing activities. Lead or support student expanded learning activities such as clubs or events. Travel occasionally regionally to support students or programs. Participate in occasional evening or weekend webinars or events as needed.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in education, mathematics, or a closely related field and two years of secondary teaching experience. Texas Teacher Certification in high school mathematics and at least two years of experience teaching secondary mathematics courses in Texas public schools. Experience designing instruction and assessments for high school mathematics courses. Comprehensive understanding of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), STAAR expectations, and best practices in mathematics instruction, lesson design, tutoring, and assessment. Experience implementing support for a variety of student group needs, at-risk, emergent bilingual, Gifted/Talented, adult learners, 504, and special education. Successful experience supporting students to achieve targeted objectives and tracking and reporting student data. Experience with online instruction. Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task with high level of proficiency. Professional demeanor. Advanced technology skills for design and delivery of online instruction or online tutoring. Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in education, mathematics, or a closely related field. More than two years of teaching experience. More than two years of experience teaching secondary mathematics courses in Texas public schools. Experience teaching multiple high school mathematics courses, such as adult learner courses, online courses, Pre-AP/AP, Dual Credit, or IB. Experience in a leadership role in an educational setting, such as Professional Learning Community Lead or Department Chair. Experience developing and delivering professional development to educators. In-depth understanding of the TEKS, Texas Education Code, FERPA, and graduation requirements. Extensive knowledge of best practices in assessment proctoring and scoring. Experience working with k-12 mathematics curriculum, instruction, or assessment in an online learning management system, such as Canvas LMS. Educator certification in multiple subject areas. Experience developing or facilitating online instruction. Experience leading trainings for teachers for curriculum, social emotional, G/T, Advanced Placement, or emergent bilingual strategies. Experience with blended learning instruction. Experience presenting or marketing at conferences.
Salary Range
$54,000 depending on qualifications
