Director of Environmental Education (Program Coordinator I), Minimum Salary: $49,700, Ruth Patrick Science Education Center (RPSEC) at USCA
The Director of Environmental Education is responsible for developing, implementing, coordinating, supervising, and evaluating all aspects of a dynamic, interactive, educational programs for students and teachers in the CSRA. Outdoor education programs include the Science and Technology Enrichment Program (STEP), Bridgestone Environmental Education Program (BEEP), and Hopelands Outdoor Premiere Education (HOPE) program.
The teaching responsibilities of this position will focus on outdoor education and other general STEM education for PK -12th grade students visiting the Ruth Patrick Science Education Center and our partner facilities at the Savannah River Site, the Silver Bluff Audubon Center, Bridgestone plants, and Hopelands Gardens and Rye Patch. This will include teaching lessons, updating curriculum and developing new educational programs. The Director of Environmental Education will also teach courses and workshops, and work to secure external funding.
The Director of Environmental Education will provide the leadership necessary to ensure the successful delivery of engaging, standards-based, hands-on, inquiry-based outdoor education programs at various sites. This position will work with area teachers to develop a schedule of classes offered at our partner facilities. The person in this position will work with personnel at our partner sites to provide student and teacher access to partner facilities.
The motto of the RPSEC is, “Infusing a Love for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics” and seeks to do so for people of all ages. The RPSEC is a cooperative effort between the University of South Carolina Aiken, business, industry, and schools in the Central Savannah River Area of South Carolina and Georgia. A major focus of the RPSEC is to serve as the outreach arm of USC Aiken to K-12 schools in the region. Students participate in field trips where they engage in a variety of captivating, standards-based educational programs to support STEM. In addition to its focus on the K-12 community, the RPSEC also has a significant educational mission to serve the general public through special educational activities and events. The Director of Environmental Education will engage in all aspects of RPSEC programming.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 2 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience. Preferred: Master’s degree and 3 years teaching experience, or bachelor’s degree and 5 years teaching experience. Experience as a classroom teacher. Experience with outdoor environmental education.
