Job Purpose
The position reports to the Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor and performs minor electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and carpentry work for buildings on campus and off campus as assigned. The position also entails large-scale garbage pickup and will be diverted to help with snow removal work, pending weather conditions.
This position is considered essential personnel and is expected to be available in the event of emergencies
Essential Duties
- Perform minor repairs and/or replacement of plumbing fixtures, valves and other devices as required
- Perform minor repairs and/or replacements of electrical fixtures devices and appliances as required
- Perform minor carpentry work as required to repair windows, doors, hardware, screens and furniture and event setups, as needed
- Will be diverted from normal duties to help with performing and/or direct snow plowing and ice removal, salting and clearing of areas of all snow, with an early start (5 a.m. or 6 a.m.) as determined by weather forecasted
- Will be responsible for the removal of all University residential hall trash; also, the mechanic will remove trash from student resident apartments, as needed on weekends
- Assists with first year student move-in day activities, and commencement setup on or off campus as assigned
- Custodial work including cleaning of all university areas, on an emergency basis, as needed
- Setup and move furniture in student rooms, lounges and other support spaces in the University, as needed.
Additional Skills Required
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
- The ability to uphold human dignity and respect by recognizing each person's worth, valuing diverse perspectives, and treating others with kindness, fairness, and empathy
- Must be able to respect, support and contribute to the University's Catholic and Jesuit mission
Minimum Education Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent is required
Preferred Education
Minimum Job Experience Requirements
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in care and maintenance of similar facilities
