The GME enterprise supports nearly 100 residency and fellowship programs and 1,000 residents and fellows across multiple affiliated teaching hospitals and participating sites. As Director, you will help ensure these programs have the leadership, resources, systems, and administrative support needed to thrive.

This is an opportunity to serve as a trusted thought partner to senior leadership, lead a dedicated team, and help shape the infrastructure that supports the next generation of physicians.

What You’ll Do:

Provide strategic leadership and direction

  • Partner closely with the Sr. Associate Dean for GME/Designated Institutional Official to establish priorities, develop long-term strategies, and advance the GME enterprise.
  • Translate big-picture goals into practical plans that strengthen operations, support program growth, and improve the experience of residents, fellows, faculty, and staff.
  • Anticipate emerging trends in medical education, accreditation, technology, and workforce development, identifying opportunities to innovate and prepare for the future.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and representative for GME in institutional initiatives, leadership discussions, and cross-functional partnerships.

Lead, mentor, and develop people

  • Provide leadership and direction to the GME administrative team, including managers overseeing accreditation and compliance, operations and trainee services, and systems, communications, and analytics.
  • Build a collaborative, high-performing environment where people feel supported, understand expectations, and have opportunities to grow professionally.
  • Coach and mentor team members, develop future leaders, and strengthen the team’s ability to manage day-to-day responsibilities independently and effectively.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and improvement while navigating sensitive personnel matters and competing priorities with empathy and sound judgment.
  • Partner with Human Resources and institutional leaders on workforce planning, recruitment, retention, performance management, and organizational development.

Oversee accreditation, compliance, and institutional partnerships

  • Provide strategic oversight of GME accreditation and regulatory readiness, including requirements established by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and other applicable organizations.
  • Guide the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and risk management practices that support compliance and operational effectiveness.
  • Oversee institutional governance and administrative support for the GME Committee, affiliate relationships, and processes related to prior learning assessments.
  • Build strong relationships across academic departments, affiliated hospitals, program leadership, and institutional partners to support consistent practices and successful program outcomes.
  • Oversee audit readiness and use findings to identify opportunities for improvement.

Strengthen operations and drive innovation

  • Evaluate existing processes, systems, and administrative structures to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, service, and the overall effectiveness of GME operations.
  • Lead initiatives involving technology, data analytics, dashboards, communications, and digital transformation.
  • Use data, feedback, and emerging best practices to inform decisions, measure progress, and guide continuous improvement.
  • Oversee operational planning and resource management, including budgets, forecasting, and financial stewardship, in alignment with institutional priorities.
  • Lead strategic projects and organizational initiatives that support the evolving needs of GME.

What Makes This Opportunity Unique?

  • A seat at the table: Work closely with senior medical education leadership as a strategic partner, helping shape priorities and long-term direction.
  • Meaningful leadership impact: Develop people, strengthen teams, and build the administrative capabilities that allow programs and their leaders to succeed.
  • Room to innovate: Enjoy the autonomy to identify challenges, develop solutions, and bring new ideas and approaches to life.
  • A broad institutional perspective: Collaborate with faculty, physicians, program directors, administrators, and partners across a complex academic medical center.
  • Continued professional growth: Engage with the broader GME community and stay connected to national conversations, emerging practices, and developments in medical education.
  • Purpose-driven work: Contribute to the education and development of future physicians while supporting the people and programs that make that work possible.
