Position Summary
Provide academic advising to undergraduates in the College of Nursing (CON). Responsible for thoroughly understanding the curriculum, university policy, and campus resources. Assist in coordinating the living/learning community and undergraduate nursing events. Participate in ongoing training in all aspects of academic advising, including the use of technology and data management systems that support effective advising.
Duties and Responsibilities
Key Duties And Responsibilities
Advise and monitor progress of CON students, ensuring progress toward graduation in a timely fashion.
Initiate student contact, providing advising outreach and one-on-one appointments and drop-in advising as appropriate.
Collaborate with and support other advisors, faculty, and administrators within the CON.
Participate in scholastic standing review.
Ensure accurate and timely evaluation and posting of transfer credits for new and continuing Nursing students.
Work with online student records system.
Conduct degree audits.
Assist in planning and executing programs in residence halls/living-learning in the evenings and weekends as required.
Assist in coordinating admission events and information sessions in the evenings and weekends as required.
Assist in coordinating college events (i.e., White Coat Ceremony and Graduation).
Assist in coordinating the Nursing Ambassador Program and Peer Mentor Program.
Advise in orientation sessions.
Teach URI 101 for first year (freshman) students.
Other Duties And Responsibilities
Perform other duties as required.
Licenses, Tools And Equipment
Computers, printers; database management and spreadsheet software; student record-keeping systems.

Required
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree earned or expected by May 2026 in adult education, College Student Personnel, or a related field with a minimum of two years of experience in academic advising in higher education (this experience may include work performed as a graduate student) OR Bachelor’s degree earned or expected by May 2026 with a minimum of five years of experience in academic advising in a higher education setting.
- Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency in written communication skills.
- Ability to work with diverse groups/populations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Academic advising experience in a higher education nursing program.
- Ability to utilize current social media applications (Instagram, Facebook, X).
- Ability to use Brightspace (or similar platform), presentation technology and student records systems (preferably Peoplesoft).
- Experience with Starfish.
