Biological Sciences
The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified Research Specialist for the Department of Biological Sciences. This Research Specialist will be responsible for performing and interpreting experiments in a laboratory studying the control of gene expression. Experiments will include those involving molecular genetics in yeast, molecular biology, and biochemistry. Experience with techniques in these areas is essential. Additional duties are maintaining the lab equipment, stocks, and supplies.
Essential Functions
Strong science background enabling candidate to perform and understand biological experiments. Basic math and careful organization skills are essential. Must be able to efficiently handle and use standard and specific scientific equipment including centrifuges, balances, pipettes, Petri dishes, etc. Communicates effectively and takes initiative in prioritizing responsibilities. Keeps detailed, accurate, and timely data records. Maintains laboratory equipment and supplies.
Physical Effort
Periods of standing and moving between areas of the lab and the CLCA complex. Brief periods lifting media flasks and supplies.
