What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laboratory Research Technician III- Rizzo Lab position at University of Pittsburgh?
Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.
Med-Aging Institute
The incumbent will work closely with the PI and in collaboration with the MARMO-AD multi-disciplinary research team involved in investigating primate specific mechanisms that are the molecular and cellular root causes of Alzheimer's disease inception and progression using translational approaches in aging marmosets and marmosets with genetic risk for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. The successful candidate has a background in neuroscience with extensive expertise in marmoset cognitive behaviors and blood based biomarker analysis, must be self-motivated, passionate, organized, have great interpersonal and leadership skills, and have a solid base of knowledge of advanced scientific principles in the fields of marmoset behavior, cognition, and Alzheimer's disease. Mouse colony management/PCR and genotyping experience required.
Other skills: ELISA, Western Blots, Immunohistochemistry, Behavioral studies preferred but not required.
Essential Functions
Basic scientific laboratory work at the bench space. Repetitive pipetting, Handling mice. Must have good eye to hand coordination, excellent visual acuity, and manual dexterity. Must be able to reach/stack consumables on shelves and occasionally move equipment.
Physical Effort
Must be able to move swiftly between testing rooms; be able to lift and carry 15 pounds.
