What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assessment Manager position at University of Pittsburgh?
Provides strategic direction and facilitates goals related to the education programs for the school and serves as primary contact for the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs/courses and initiatives. Contributes towards strategic planning, policy development, and best practices of program/course design. Leads the process of partnership development and initiates collaborative relationships with various state and national associations, government and community agencies, and business. Performs budgetary functions and research-based analysis.
Office of the SVC and Provost
As part of the Academic Team in the Office of the Provost, the Assessment Manager will lead assessment strategy for a University-wide General Education Program. They will also lend expertise to University-wide assessment projects related to accreditation by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
Essential Functions
Designing assessment strategies:The Assessment Coordinator works with faculty and administrators on the new General Education Assessment Committee to design comprehensive assessment plans aligned with the Gen Ed program's learning outcomes.
Selecting appropriate assessment methods:They identify and recommend suitable assessment methods and instruments, which can include both direct (measuring student performance) and indirect (measuring student perceptions) measures.
Establishing assessment timelines and cycles:They establish clear timelines and cycles for collecting and analyzing assessment data to ensure ongoing evaluation and improvement.
Providing training and support:They offer training and support to faculty and staff on assessment methodologies, data collection, and analysis.
Managing assessment data:They oversee the collection, storage, and organization of assessment data, ensuring its integrity and accessibility.
Monitoring assessment processes:They monitor the assessment process to ensure it is implemented consistently and effectively across the Gen Ed program.
Facilitating data-informed decision-making:The Assessment Coordinator plays a key role in facilitating discussions among faculty and administrators to ensure that assessment data is used to inform decisions about curriculum, teaching practices, and student support services.
Recommending program revisions:Based on assessment findings, they recommend specific revisions to the curriculum, courses, or teaching methods to improve student learning outcomes.
Promoting a culture of evidence:They advocate for and promote a culture of evidence within the institution, where assessment is viewed as a valuable tool for continuous improvement.
Assisting with accreditation processes:They assist with accreditation processes by providing assessment data and reports to relevant accrediting bodies.
