The Assistant Athletics Director, Event/Game Management will have oversight of Event/Game Management for the athletics department. Will serve as game manager for select sporting events. Oversee, organize, and implement guidelines to effectively host athletic sporting events for all 26 sports which includes regular season contests, tournaments, conference tournaments (hosted at ND) and NCAA Championship rounds (both at home and at neutral locations where ND serves as host). In coordination with designated University staff, manage many major events including both University events and non-University events Coordinate staffing of games/events with appropriate staff. Work and coordinate with facilities staff for the successful set up, break down and operations of athletics sporting events.
Primary Duties:
- Oversee all facets of game day management for 26 Sports, to include, but not limited to, communication, accommodations, scheduling, employment of game day staff (officials, announcers, etc.), promotions, sports information, security, risk management, grounds, concessions, training of staff, etc. In addition, this includes working with Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Director of Operations both internally as well as those from visiting institutions.
- Provide a safe and secure environment for competitors, working staff and guests. Responsibilities include the oversight and implementation of operation and media credentials for all working staff; employment of gameday staff; hosting visiting teams and game officials; coordination of pregame and in game activities as it relates to the television broadcast partners. Creation of policies, procedures, game management manuals, and production notes for all sports.
- Assist with the management and coordination of non-athletic events in all athletic facilities to include both University and non-University events. Assist with coordination of any athletics related special event and/or neutral site competitions.
- Oversee all planning and organization of NCAA, Big Ten and ACC tournaments for all Sports which includes the bidding process, budget planning, and working in conjunction with the NCAA corporate office and ACC Conference office.
- Other duties as assigned by Sr Associate AD
The overall goal of this position is to represent Notre Dame to the fullest for all athletic and non-athletic events held within all athletics facilities. It is imperative that this individual be successful in handling the management aspect of all events to ensure all parties involved have a positive experience and the unit is operating at maximum efficiency. The key is to build a fundamental level of respect, trust and understanding for each sport and to communicate with all those involved. This position encompasses numerous variables and decision making has to be done timely, effectively, efficiently and professionally.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree (4 years)
- 5 to 6 years experience; Business or Sports Administration
- Knowledge of NCAA/Big Ten/ACC rules and regulations
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to multi-task effectively
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to create a team environment required
- Ability to think outside the box imperative
- Strong organization and supervisory skills essential
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters degree
- Advanced certification beyond Bachelors
- Strong marketing background preferred
