Job Description
The Shaw Center for Children and Families is seeking two Temporary Research Assistants for the summer to support an exciting new research initiative: the REACH Project , a randomized clinical trial funded by the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities ( NIMHD ).
Led by Dr. Kristin Valentino and Dr. Arielle Sheftall, the REACH Project will evaluate two innovative treatment approaches to suicide prevention among youth. This is a summer-only, on-call position—ideal for students or individuals looking for flexible, meaningful work during the summer months.
Research Assistants will receive training to conduct face-to-face interviews and assessments with adolescents and their parents at our on-site research office.

Ideal Candidates Will Have
- A strong interest in adolescent mental health and suicide prevention
- Comfort and skill in connecting with people, especially adolescents
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities
- Experience with interviewing or research (preferred but not required)
- Ability to maintain a flexible and responsive schedule
- Hours: 4–8 hours/week based on assessment scheduling and availability
- Schedule: Most assessments will take place in the early evenings (3–8 PM), with occasional appointments during daytime hours or weekends
- Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity to engage effectively with Mexican-origin families.
- Availability for flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Experience with interviewing, community engagement, or research preferred.
