The Network Engineer, based on the UNH Durham campus, is responsible for configuring, installing and maintaining wireless access points and gateways, as well as ethernet switches and related physical components across the three main USNH campuses, Keene State College, Plymouth State University, and UNH Durham.

Duties/Responsibilities
Wireless Network (55%)
- Configure and install wireless access points and gateways following university configuration templates and procedure during equipment refresh cycles or as new project requirements.
- Utilize tools such as Aruba Central, Airwave, NetAlly, and Wifi Analyzer in daily wireless network maintenance.
- Monitor, measure and troubleshoot network performance using tools such as spectrum analyzers and network traffic analyzers, proactively mitigating network problems as they arise.
- Provide network design options to support daily asset management of all USNH 800 ethernet switches, 20,000 Ethernet ports and 7000 wireless access points within the enterprise.
- Install and maintain tools and systems to integrate with existing network infrastructure.
- Perform complex maintenance modifications and updates to existing systems.
- Maintain skill currency through self-study and attend formal training when applicable.
- Conduct analysis of customer requirements for additional network services, such as wireless access points, IOT devices and other network requirements.
- Conduct service visits to customer sites and consult with users to provide cost effective solutions to meet client needs.
- Provide on-going support and training to address client needs.
- Advise the university community on the purchase of network technology that is compatible with the university’s current and future network infrastructure.
- Research, design, implement, manage and maintain all wireless local area network infrastructure.
- Investigate new emerging network transport technologies and identify appropriate vendor software solutions to meet evolving institutional needs.
- Ensure all switching and wireless hardware are configured according to security policies and procedures.
- Supervise contractors and student workers on network related projects.
- Develop project plans to include detailed list of materials and identify resources required to assist with estimating project cost when required.
- Configure and install edge switches following university configuration templates and procedure during equipment refresh cycles or as new project requirements.
- Monitor and maintain all campus network rooms across the enterprise to ensure high availability of power, cooling and connectivity for all network gear.
- Provide system maintenance and support for platforms such as SolarWinds, Aruba Central, Enterasys NetSight, Aruba Airwave, and Aruba Clearpass.
- Manage network protocol structure and configure network equipment for effective use on multiple network protocols.
- Install and repair jacks when required, following university layer 1 procedures.
- Label and document all network assets in departments asset management software.
- Develop and maintain disaster recovery documentation currency for all wired and wireless switching systems.
- Provide documentation and reporting, archiving and retrieval of data.
- Maintain proficiency with project management tools and methodologies such as Microsoft Project and Team Dynamix; application of process improvement and technology management practices such as ITIL.
- Utilize automation with tools such as Netbox to maintain current and accurate inventory.
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, or 5 years equivalent experience in a wireless network engineering role.
- CWNA, CWDP, CWAP certificates are preferred.
- Wireless technologies, project management.
