Under the supervision of the Peter T. Paul College Career Director, this position is central to the college Career and Professional Success operations. This role will involve counseling students and alumni in exploring educational, personal or career goals; identifying interests, skills, exploring internship/experiential learning opportunities; relating majors and competencies to career options; developing concrete action steps to advance career options and the job search process. Work on events such as networking nights and employer events. Join a team of career professionals who are passionate about delivering high level services. Paul College Careers has ranked in the top 50 of college career centers according to Poets and Quants Rankings of business schools.

Duties/Responsibilities

Job Description

Career Advising: 35% of time

  • Work with students in one-on-one appointments and group settings on career-related issues, including advising students in effectively:
  • Learning to identify experiences, interests, and skills and assisting them in effectively articulating their unique career story in writing and verbally 
  • Researching internships and careers 
  • Preparing resumes and cover letters 
  • Practicing Interviewing and networking 
  • Conducting a job search – develop an action plan and identify experiences that reflect competencies required of position 
  • Researching post graduate opportunities as they relate to our majors 
  • Negotiating salary and navigate on-boarding 



Programming: 35% of time

  • Develop and deliver workshops, class presentations and other career related events 
  • Work with assigned academic programs to develop and support programming 



Employer/Faculty/Alumni Relations: 30% of time

  • Develop an awareness and understanding of employers to deliver support for students as they conduct their job search 
  • Work with employers to deliver opportunities to our students 
  • Meet with undergraduate and graduate advising teams on a regular basis to assure solid communication and collaboration 
  • Assist with employer related events such as career fairs and networking events 
  • Work with alumni, faculty, and employers to assure the delivery of quality services and opportunities 
  • Track employer engagement via our Salesforce database

Requirements

Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, education, counseling, or related field, as well as 5 years of related experience. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and communication techniques 
  • Strong computer skills and ability to quickly adapt to new technologies/tools 
  • Ability to work collaboratively 
  • Ability to work efficiently and with careful attention to detail 
  • Experience working with emerging adults, and diverse student populations 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in business, education, counseling, or a related field
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills 
  • Experience working with college students, ideally in an advising capacity 
  • Understanding of issues facing college students from diverse backgrounds 
  • Experience using technology platforms such as Handshake and Salesforce
  • Experience in creating and making presentations 
  • Experience coordinating events

Compensation Pay Range

$27.00-$29.00 per hour
