The Department of Agriculture, Veterinary and Rangeland Sciences (AVRS) at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a non-tenure track Teaching Assistant Professor (Lecturer II) position starting January 1, 2026. This position will be an integral component of the University of Nevada, Reno and the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources (CABNR).

Teaching responsibilities include instruction in both introductory and advanced undergraduate courses, as well as mentoring of undergraduate students enrolled in the Agriculture, Veterinary and Rangeland Science majors. Applicants should be able to demonstrate strong evidence of effective teaching, curriculum development (including hybrid: asynchronous online combined with in-person) and advising/mentorship of undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds. The candidate must be able to work in a multi-cultural setting and create an environment that fosters collegiality, diversity and teamwork while contributing to our institutional and departmental missions.

Responsibilities will include: 1) teaching four undergraduate courses per academic year, including Range-Livestock Interactions, Principles of Range Management, Shrubland Ecology, and Directed Internships; 2) development of and delivery of hybrid courses within the Rangeland Ecology & Management degree; 3) working with AVRS faculty to develop and deliver online and hybrid courses for the other majors offered within the department, 4) shared departmental scheduling and management of course enrollments; 5) coordinating with the CABNR recruiter and assisting in retentions activities including maintaining recruiting databases for AVRS; 6) advising undergraduate students; and 7) providing general service to the department, college, and profession.

Required Qualifications: Degree: Master of Science or Ph.D. in Rangeland Ecology or a closely related field; demonstrated potential for effectiveness in teaching including experience in hybrid/online course development and delivery. A strong desire to mentor, recruit and retain undergraduate students interested in careers in Rangeland Ecology and Management, Animal and Veterinary Sciences. The successful applicant must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a highly interdisciplinary department of professionals. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are necessary.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience (2 or more years) in the teaching of range science-related coursework at a university level. Knowledge of rangelands and associated animal production systems.

The mission of the Department of Agriculture, Veterinary and Rangeland Sciences (AVRS) is to provide strong educational programs for undergraduate and graduate students while conducting cutting-edge research to enhance Nevada’s plant and animal agricultural assets, animal healthcare, and effectively manage our rangeland resources. We maintain an active engagement with our primary stakeholders and the general public, to share our scientific knowledge. This mission provides strong educational programs in the disciplines of Agriculture, Veterinary Sciences and Rangeland Ecology and Management at the undergraduate, graduate, and internship levels. We train students to meet state, national, and international needs by increasing the workforce of agriculturalists, animal healthcare professionals, and land managers trained to work in arid and semi-arid environments. We conduct innovative research in the departmental disciplines providing local, national, and global impact. We address critical issues identified by the citizens of the State of Nevada through continued teaching, scholarly activities, outreach, and service.
