Assistant Professor

Job Description

The University of Missouri, Columbia is seeking a tenure-track assistant professor with a research agenda that builds on the Truman School's emerging research strengths (https://truman.missouri.edu/research-areas) and who can contribute to teaching needs in at least one of these areas: public administration, comparative politics, international relations and/or research methods. The position begins in the Fall Semester of 2026. This is a 9-month teaching and research appointment. The typical teaching load will be 2 courses per semester.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in Political Science, Public Policy/Administration, or related field, by the time of appointment.

Candidates will be evaluated on:

Competitive applicants will have a clear research agenda in an area that builds on the Truman School's emerging research strengths (https://truman.missouri.edu/research-areas), strong theoretical orientation, excellent methodological skills, ability to publish in highly ranked journals and academic presses, and potential for effective teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Applicants from scholars from all research areas and fields in Public Administration, Political Science, and Public Policy are encouraged to apply. Candidate must contribute to addressing TSGPA's teaching needs in public administration, comparative politics, international relations, and/or research methods. Competitive candidates will have the ability to develop courses in these areas if they lack prior experience.

The cover letter should address current and future research and teaching interests. Please also provide evidence of effective teaching. Your teaching statement should describe your pedagogical goals/practices including information about your ability to teach and supervise undergraduate and graduate students.

Candidates should provide three letters of recommendations to the Truman School Director's Office (mutsgpadirector@missouri.edu).
