Job Summary

This is a part-time, term-limited position due to salary funded on a grant.

The University of Michigan, School of Nursing (UMSN), Department of Health Behavior and Clinical Sciences seeks a Statistician Intermediate to work with a faculty principal investigator (PI) to assist with research activities related to 2024 SAMHSA Interprofessional Addiction Education, 2023 Comprehensive Opioid Stimulant Substance Use Program, and other duties assigned by the PI. The overall goal of this research program is to evaluate substance use programs for community partners and educate interprofessional students about addiction.

Responsibilities*

  • Collect and evaluate varied quantitative and qualitative datasets; determine appropriate sampling approaches, develop survey instruments, apply standard quantitative and qualitative techniques to assess results.
  • Advise faculty PI on data management and data quality issues. Conduct preliminary analyses of studies including but not limited to data pre-processing & quality, testing model assumptions, and reliability of scales. Interact with research colleagues to verify, clarify and correct data submitted.
  • Conduct literature reviews and may contribute to or is the sole author of articles and grant proposals
  • Create and manage data documentation, provide data management and facilitate data dissemination with community partners and research team.

Required Qualifications*

  • A Bachelor's degree in biostatistics, statistics, data management, or a related field is required; a Master's degree in biostatistics, statistics, data management, or a related field is preferred.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of professional statistical work experience.
  • Experience with community engaged research methodologies including rapid qualitative analysis and evaluation reports.
  • Knowledge of statistical software (i.e., SPSS, Stata, SAS, R) is required.
  • Candidate must have excellent teamwork and superior oral and written communication skills, with the ability to receive and convey information clearly and concisely for various mediums.
  • Excellent computer skills, including expert knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Outlook, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Proven analytical skills and follow-through; a high degree of creativity, initiative, resourcefulness, and the ability to anticipate needs.
  • Demonstrated excellent problem solving, analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as effectively in teams; must have the ability to work comfortably with individuals at all levels.
  • Able to contribute expertise on data related topics with faculty and staff in collaborative teams.
  • Must reliably manage responsibilities and manage time effectively.

Additional Information

Authorization to work in the U.S. is a precondition of employment. Applicants will not be sponsored for work visas.

Hours: 20

Shift/Hours/Days: Between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; may include some occasional weekend and/or evening hours. This position is hybrid.

Salary: The target salary for this position is up to a maximum of $34,500 per year (based on a full-time salary rate of $69,000) due to salary funded on a grant. The actual salary determined will be based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate and may be less than the maximum.
