Job Summary

We are seeking a laboratory and clinical esearch assistant who is energetic, enthusiastic, and enjoys collaborative and independent science. This position involves interfacing with the Wadhams Family Center for Children's Vision, a clinical and research initiative for complex pediatric eye care. This position involves patient recruitment, clinical data and specimen collection, genetic analysis, clinical research related to complex pediatric eye care. The focus of the labs is on genetic disorders of the eye.

Responsibilities*

The Position Involves Clinical Research In Ocular Genetics Setting

Patient recruitment and enrollment of study participants in research studies including: review of clinical records, phone and in person consenting, taking family history and medical history, drawing pedigrees, saliva/blood sample collection and processing. It also involves interfacing with the institutional review board (IRB) and processing amendments and annual reviews for IRB protocols. Parsing and entering metadata into RedCap database, database updates, management and query.

General office work related to research studies: copying and mailing genetic test results, filing data, compiling blood/saliva collection kits, scheduling results disclosures, and tracking genetic testing results.

There is also clinical effort in the Wadhams Center for Children's Vision Clinic with helping patients navigate complex multidisciplinary care, surveying patient experience and clinical outcomes, communicating research results return and coordinating with clinicians for surgical specimen collection.

Required Qualifications*

  • BA or BS in recognized field of science related to the position.
  • This position is not available for visa sponsorship and requires authorization to work in the United States.
  • available on or before June 1, 2026
  • Highly motivated responsible individual with excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to interact with pediatric patients and families, and clinicians.


Desired Qualifications*

Interest in genetic counseling/genetics and patient-oriented research.

Clinical interest in eye disorders and ocular development in the pediatric population.

Proficiency with database management and human subjects research is preferred, but we will train the right person.

Modes of Work

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
