Job Summary

This is a full-time, term-limited position due to salary funded on a grant.

The Center for Advancing Research in Identity, Sexuality, and Equity (ARISE) at the University of Michigan School of Nursing (UMSN) is seeking a Research Area Specialist Intermediate who will work on two grant-funded research projects. The project examines the role of violence in influencing HIV clinical care and HIV risk behaviors among two cohorts of sexual minority men in the US. Both studies are longitudinal cohort studies. The Research Area Specialist Intermediate's (RASI) primary responsibility will be to provide assistance in the implementation and ongoing coordination of the complex cohort study of men living with HIV or at risk for HIV infection. The RASI will work directly with the project manager and with the Faculty Principal Investigators The selected candidate will undertake study coordination tasks, including, but not limited to; programming online surveys using online survey software (i.e. Qualtrics or Survey Monkey); supporting with qualitative data collection and analysis, overseeing beta-testing and revision of surveys; coordinating survey distribution using a participant management system; design and implement online recruitment via social media platforms; support the recruitment and retention of study participants; monitor data collection; package and ship specimen collection kits and monitor lab results; manage and distribute incentive payments to participants and support and coordinate research compliance: conduct in-person study visits with research participants at our Ann Arbor study sites (i.e. 400 North Ingalls), including collecting blood samples (phlebotomy) from participants.

Responsibilities*

• Study coordination includes overseeing data and laboratory collection processes.
• Conduct in-person study assessments at multiple sites (Ann Arbor and Detroit), including collecting informed consent, administering surveys, and collecting blood, urine and pharyngeal specimens according to laboratory specifications, following written procedures without deviation.
• Handle all specimens according to research protocol, process specimens in preparation for shipping to central lab within mandated timelines while maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to environmental and safety health policies and procedures.
• Recruiting and retaining study participants.
• Other duties as assigned or required for the research project.
• Responsible for incentive payment process.
• Responsible for processing IRBs and IRB compliance.

Required Qualifications*

Education And Experience

• A bachelor's degree in a health-related field is required; a master's degree in a health-related discipline (i.e., Public Health or Social Work) is preferred.
• A minimum of four (4) years' work experience with health-related research
• A minimum of 1 year of phlebotomy experience is preferred.
• Candidate should be able to demonstrate experience with, or passion for, working with the LGBT community.
• Candidate must have excellent communication skills, with the ability to receive and convey information clearly and concisely for various mediums.
• Demonstrated proficiency at the intermediate level with Microsoft Office products (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

Additional Information

Shift/Hours/Days: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; may include some occasional weekend and/or evening hours. This position is hybrid.

Salary: The target salary range for this position is $55,000 - $57,000 due to salary funded on a grant. The actual salary determined will be based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate and may be less than the maximum. Salary is commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. We encourage all interested parties meeting requirements to apply.
