Michigan Dining comprises nineteen on-campus cafes and markets, ten residential dining halls, a line of Blue to Go foods, the Campus Bakeshop, and the Michigan Catering unit. Our 500 professional and 1,500 student employees are committed to creative, healthy, and nutritious foods, international cuisines, and sustainability throughout all dining operations.

Position Summary

The Learning and Development Lead at Michigan Dining is responsible for crafting the vision and strategy for onboarding, training, and professional development programs. This role will report to the M Dining Culture & Engagement Director. Under general direction, responsible for all aspects of the development and implementation of assigned projects. This role involves designing progressive training initiatives, conducting strategic analyses, and collaborating with leadership and HR to address performance gaps. The Learning and Development Lead oversees the implementation of various training sessions, recruits facilitators, and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements. Additionally, as a manager, they supervise team members, organize certifications, and contribute to the overall success of Michigan Dining by developing various training programs.

Responsibilities*

You Will

  • Lead strategy for Michigan Dining onboarding, trainings, and professional development programs.
  • Lead a team of learning and development professionals to design, develop, and deliver training programs for professional, union, and student employees.
  • Design and oversee competency learning frameworks aligned with organizational goals.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to identify our needs and develop targeted learning solutions to improve.
  • Advance student employment programs that support engagement, learning, and leadership development.
  • Manage budgets and resources to ensure efficient delivery of learning and development projects.
  • Establish metrics and benchmarks to measure the effectiveness of learning and development programs.


Required Qualifications*

You Have

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in instructional systems design, organizational development, education, hospitality, human resources, or a related field. Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
  • 8 years of training and development experience, including program design and facilitation.
  • Experience leading and developing staff through supervising, coaching, or performance management (no formal management experience required).
  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices in learning and development, including technology-based learning solutions.
  • Write technical documents such as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), policies, training manuals, and instructional guides.
  • Basic knowledge or experience with the principles and practices in the food service or hospitality industry.
