Job Description

General Purpose of Job:

Responsible for the management of the patient care area 24 hours per day. Plans, directs, coordinates and evaluates all intradepartmental and interdepartmental activities related to department.

Essential Duties

This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Associates may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.

• Plans, implements, direct, delegates and evaluates patient care throughout department(s).
• Expert resource for nursing performance and ancillary staff consultant.
• Recommends, develops, implements, and evaluates policies and procedures.
• Assures regulatory compliance.
• Interviews, hires, and provides direction, appraisal, and discipline to nursing personnel.
• Plans, develops and implements annual competency evaluation for nursing personnel.
• Develops work schedules as assigned, adjusts daily schedules as needed.
• Participates in performance improvement, staff and patient education activities, and documentation.
• Promotes cost effectiveness, develops budget for department with Director and approval of CNO.
• Ensures distribution and delivery of supplies and equipment for patient care, monitoring utilization.
• Responds to all emergencies and disasters within the organization.
• Conducts and documents daily rounding throughout the department and with patients.
• Monthly documented caregiver rounds.
  
  

Job Requirements

General Requirements

• Current License in the State of Michigan as an RN
• ACLS
• PALS, TNCC preferred
  
  

Work Experience

• Minimum of five years Med/Surg nursing experience.
• Minimum of three years increasing responsibility in healthcare setting
• Intermediate or Critical Care experience preferred
  
  

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program
• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in nursing
• Master’s degree or advanced degree in nursing preferred
  
  

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

• Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, including effective interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and strong attention to detail.
