JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: CLINICAL NURSE II GRADE: N/A FLSA STATUS: NON EXEMPT JOB CODE: 700 DEPARTMENT: NURSING LOCATION: UM UCH PREVIOUS TITLE: NEW DATE CREATED: 7/2019 REPORTS TO: MANAGER, NURSING DATE REVIEWED: I. General Summary This role is considered the minimum role for all nurses who have greater than 12 months experience. Provides and coordinates independent care to patients within a clinical specialty as a fully effective and participative member of the multidisciplinary patient care services team. Utilizes the institution’s care delivery and professional practice models as the frame of reference for practicing as a professional nurse. Participates in activities to develop own practice, and to support group practice goals at the unit level. Is accountable to patient, family and team members for care provided and to the nurse manager for totality of work performance. Is accountable to hold to the Service Standards and to the Nursing Mission, Vision and Values.

JOB TITLE: Clinical Nurse II JOB TASK LIST 1. Competency in care of unit specific patient population; independently practices with solid knowledge and clinical skills; engaged in advancing own practice and applies and integrates evidence into practice using elements of research/EBP/QI 2. Serves as a clinical resource for others. 3. Functions effectively in roles specific to unit, such as arrest team for ICU, triage for ED, etc. Demonstrates the ability to function in the charge nurse role 4. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to plan and coordinate care; independently advocating for patient/family needs. 5. Models practice consistent with unit operations to ensure safe, timely effective, efficient, equitable, patient centered care. 6. Responsible for maintaining competencies required for that patient care setting; focus on advancing own professional development and is engaged in advancing own practice. 7. Attends unit based staff development independently. 8. Contributes to developing/evaluating unit based orientation and other education activities and demonstrates the ability to serve as a trained preceptor and coach’s new nurse, students while contributing to nursing support personnel skills and development. 9. Completes 5 CEU’s on an annual basis based on facility minimum requirements. CEUs include accredited CEUs. In-services can be used; school credit hours are defined as follows: 1 class credit-5 CEs ACLS, PALS and BLS does not count towards CEUs 10. Becomes familiar with National Hospital Quality Measures, National Patient Safety Goals, Quality Indicators, Nursing Sensitive Indicators, and Facility Annual Operating Plan. 11. Aware of patient and team member satisfaction scores and contributes to unit initiatives for improvement. 12. Provides high quality, safe, patient centered care with focus on exceeding service expectations. 13. Accountable for compliance with regulatory requirements and holds others accountable; participates in tracer activities when requested. 14. Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety. 15. Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority and reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority 16. Implements policies, procedures, and guidelines consistently in the performance of assigned duties. 17. Develops effective working relationships and maintains good communication with other team members and participates in teambuilding efforts on their unit. Provides feedback in peer review as requested and provides direct performance feedback at the direction of the nurse manager. 18. Identifies possible risks in processes, procedures, devices and communicates the same to those in charge. 19. Participates in hospital, departmental and/or unit patient safety initiatives and contributes to briefings/staff meetings regularly. Contributes and participates in unit, Nursing Division, and organizational governance structure. 20. Participates in recruitment and retention activities at the unit level
