JOB SUMMARY:
Directs supervises and coordinates functions in the various sections of the UM Shore Medical Center at Easton, Queen Anne, & Teal Drive clinical laboratories, Bay Street Anatomic Pathology laboratory and laboratory Walk-In Services and Diagnostic Centers; assures the provision of clinical laboratory services to meet the needs of patients as ordered by the medical staff and performed in accordance with accepted standards and practices.
Essential Functions Of The Job
MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related science from an accredited school; Medical Technologist (ASCP) or equivalent. Minimum of five years of experience as a medical technologist in various phases of laboratory work in a hospital or similar setting. Historical progression in increased laboratory responsibilities. Master’s Degree preferred but not required. Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and supervisory skills.

Essential Functions Of The Job
- Maintains technical expertise in order to evaluate, instruct and assist in various sections of the laboratory. Provides leadership and direction.
- Assists in annual budget preparation and projections for future demands and expansion. Operates within budget and justifies variances.
- Maintains a high quality work environment necessary for excellence in patient care. Ensure compliance with all State, Federal, JCAHO and CAP laws, regulations, and standards.
- Assumes authority and responsibility for all technical and managerial functions, including the daily efficient operation for all sections, good QC practices, Quality Assurance, process improvements, scheduling, personnel policy interpretation and counseling and supply inventory.
- Assess situations and challenges from a System-wide perspective, considering multiple alternatives and choosing the appropriate course of action.
- Maintains and updates policies and procedures on QA, QC, CE, hazardous waste, safety, procedure manuals, directories, etc.
- Coordinates with Recruitment in the interviewing and hiring of new employees. Works directly with Human Resources regarding the performance management and termination of Laboratory staff. Ensures accurate and complete training of all direct reports, competency assessments and maintenance of all employee files.
- Oversees the Laboratory Outreach program providing support for outreach activities including marketing, contracting, customer service, courier service, and other outreach-related activities.
- Performs other duties as needed or assigned.
