Job Summary

The Clinical Coordinator has a dual role. This dual role includes time working as a nurse in one of our Behavioral Health Outpatient Programs in addition to administrative responsibilities. In collaboration with the Manager(s) of our Outpatient Behavioral Health Services, assists him/her in the daily management of the programs, in the coordination of patient flow, in assuring appropriate staffing, budget compliance, and in the preparation of performance evaluations. The Clinical Coordinator functions as a clinical expert for the unit, participating in the ongoing professional development of the team members and in the orientation of new team members. The Clinical Coordinator is expected to participate in unit-based and organization-wide committees and task forces, and to make a significant contribution to the unit’s performance improvement and patient safety initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job responsibilities performed.

  • Assists in projects/duties as assigned by Manager, Klein Family Center and/or Director of Behavioral Health.
  • In collaboration with the Manager of the Klein Family Center and/or Director of Behavioral Health, enforces the programs’ compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulation, standards, and laws pertaining to patient safety and privacy.
  • Directs and/or assists with the mobilization of internal and external resources that facilitate patient flow through the health system.
  • Assures that the program’s environment of care, as defined by TJC and by UM UCH, is monitored and maintained.
  • In collaboration with the Klein Family Center Manager, manages the unit’s supplies and equipment in such a way as to achieve both expected patient outcomes and expense compliance.
  • Participates in the collection of quality assurance, performance improvement, and patient safety data on an ongoing basis. Assists the Klein Family Center Manager with the analysis and development of plans for improvement.
  • Supervises daily staffing levels, and ensures their consistency with established staffing standards, census, and patients’ acuity
  • Enters payroll data, maintains attendance records, and updates and maintains the position control documents.
  • In collaboration with the Klein Family Center Manager and Director of Behavioral Health, and the nursing educator(s), assesses the learning needs of the unit’s team members and participates in developing or facilitating continuing education and professional development learning opportunities.
  • Completes leadership rounds on a consistent basis in an effort to achieve patient and team member satisfaction.
  • Functions as a resource to unit team members in the coordination and management of patient care activities
  • Adapts work hours as appropriate to the needs of the unit, the team members.
  • Assists the Leadership Team in the Performance Evaluations of clinical and non-clinical staff.

  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience - Required


  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in Behavioral Health Nursing.
  • Certification in BCLS.


Education & Experience - Preferred

  • BSN or higher preferred.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. American Nurses Credentialing Center Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Board Certification (ANCC PMH-BC)
  • Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Board Certification Preferred.
  • 1 year nursing leadership experience preferred.

Work Environment: Medical Related Facility - climate and lighting controlled, clean, but with biohazards and medical equipment hazards.

Physical Requirements: Moderately Strenuous - some walking, climbing or standing for extended periods, some lifting, pushing or pulling of objects, materials, tools and/or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.

Fine Manipulation Skills Requirements: Moderate-work requires regular fine manipulation in keyboarding, setting equipment controls and typically use of both hands.

Corrected Vision Requirements: Normal Range Near, Far and Peripheral Vision.

Speaking Attribute Requirement: Communicates effectively in person and by remote device.

Hearing Attribute Requirement: Hear and decipher person speech in person AND by phone or other remote source.
