UMaine seeks qualified applicants to join our team at Graphic Print Solutions, the official print shop of the University of Maine. Full-time, regular position, 40 hours per week, 5 days per week. Daily work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Starting pay is $23.82/hour or applicable transfer rate.

New hires can expect to learn and perform all prepress tasks, such as file formatting and imposition, under minimal supervision, and then be cross-trained to work in other areas of the shop.

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepares and/or manipulates digital files for a wide array of outputs and production methods.
  • Proofreads and edits documents.
  • Monitors compliance with UM brand standards, as applicable.
  • Prints, prepares, and reviews proofs; makes changes per customer feedback.
  • Communicates with customers as appropriate (such as regarding proofs, changes, or unforeseen circumstances) to ensure customer satisfaction and impeccable service.
  • Enters and maintains records in shop software appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Works as part of a team to support the efficient flow of jobs through multiple stages of production. Engages in open and respectful discourse to collaboratively plan, troubleshoot, and pivot, when necessary.
  • Safely operates and may troubleshoot and/or maintain any of a wide variety of equipment (once trained), such as high-speed copiers and other digital printers; bindery equipment; cutting, folding, and sorting machines.

Qualifications:
Required:

  • Typically has the education associated with a high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and three years of print services experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Experience with Adobe Suite (especially InDesign and Acrobat Pro).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Exemplary customer service skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with peers and customers across a diverse population of staff, students, administrators, and community members.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Willingness and aptitude to learn and adapt to new and/or changing technology and procedures.
  • This position typically requires stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • May be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.

Preferred :

  • Experience with Photoshop and/or Illustrator.
  • Previous experience in a print production or digital printing environment.
  • Experience with digital color calibration and output control settings.
