Campus Security Officer
The University of Lynchburg, a private, regional university in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Central Virginia, is seeking applicants for full-time, Campus Security Officer position.
This position reports to, is supervised by, and evaluated by the Campus Security Supervisor/and Director of Campus Security. The evaluation of work performance will be ongoing and will be carried out by the Campus Security Officer. It will include the specific duties and responsibilities of this position description plus employee attitude and general working behavior.

Job Purpose:
To provide and assist in the immediate protection and security of students, faculty, staff and visitors in various campus buildings and/or property within the university community by enforcing the policies and procedures set by the university, state, and local laws.
Specific Job Duties:
- Respond to all calls for service in a timely and professional manner.
- Conduct investigations as required and document findings in accordance with department policies and procedures.
- Provide security and protective services to the campus community through routine patrols of assigned buildings, parking areas, and grounds.
- Respond to emergency situations by assessing conditions, exercising sound judgment, and using tact and diplomacy to maintain safety and restore order.
- Complete incident reports and other required documentation accurately and promptly.
- Maintain continuous radio communication with the dispatcher and other department personnel.
- Provide crowd management and traffic control during campus events, special activities, and emergency situations.
- Provide authorized access to campus buildings and verify the identity and authorization of individuals requesting entry.
- Identify safety hazards during patrols and promptly submit work orders or notify the appropriate university personnel for corrective action.
- Patrol campus parking areas to ensure compliance with parking regulations and issue citations when appropriate.
- Monitor fire lanes to ensure they remain unobstructed and take appropriate enforcement action in accordance with university policy.
- Provide safety escorts to students, faculty, staff, and visitors in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of campus facilities, roadways, parking areas, and university operations to effectively respond to calls for service.
- Assist with the training and mentoring of newly assigned officers as directed by the training supervisor.
- Provide relief staffing for the Control Center as assigned.
- Secure campus buildings during assigned shifts by conducting routine security inspections of doors, windows, mechanical systems, and other critical building components.
- Contact Facilities Management or other appropriate personnel to coordinate emergency repairs or address maintenance-related concerns.
- Attend and successfully complete all required professional development, certifications, and in-service training.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Starting Salary: $17.00-$19.00 an hour

Schedule:
- Shift will include evenings or overnights to meet needs of the department.
Experience/Skills:
- Ability to communicate effectively and have the ability to understand, comprehend and follow directions
- Must have good teamwork skills
Physical Demands:
- Prolonged standing/setting/wrist movement
- Prolonged walking significant distances between and within building on campus often in adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to lift 50lbs.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow printed materials, instructions, and procedures.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure, respond appropriately in emergency situations, and communicate effectively with the appropriate authorities.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to accurately recall events for incident and report documentation.
- Proficiency with basic computer applications and general computer skills.
Preferred qualifications:
- CPR Certified
- AED Certified
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent education
- Certified by the State of Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services as a CSO within 180 days of employment
- Valid Virginia State Vehicle Operator's License
