What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Professor of Communication position at University of Louisiana Monroe?
The Communication Program at the University of Louisiana Monroe currently offers a B.A. with three concentrations (Communication Studies, Film & Media Arts, and Integrated Media) and a M.A. in Strategic Communication. We seek applications for a full-time, 9-month, Assistant Professor of Communication with a strong understanding of the Communication Studies discipline, and the ability to teach primarily Interpersonal Communication courses. The successful candidate will teach a number of different courses, such as Communication & Gender, Small Group Communication, and Intercultural Communication, and should have specialized knowledge in writing, presenting, and teaching in a variety of formats, including experience with online instruction. The successful candidate may also be responsible for teaching several Communication core courses on a rotating basis; these include Public Speaking, Fundamentals of Communication & Interpersonal Communication. The position requires teaching four classes per semester, providing service to the institution, and engaging in scholarly research and/or creative work.

- Teach four courses per semester, at both the undergraduate and graduate level, including courses listed above and others, such as Organizational Communication, Rhetoric, and Criticism of Contemporary Communication.
- Teach in multiple formats including face-to-face, hybrid, and online
- Regularly assess courses as determined by program assessment plan and SACSCOC
- Advise undergraduate and graduate students
- Advise student organizations
- Actively participate in student recruitment
- Serve on committees and provide other needed service to the institution
- Ph.D. in Communication or related field (ABD considered)
- Statement of teaching philosophy
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness and an active research agenda
- A strong understanding of the academic environment, particularly support of assessment practices, faculty collaboration, and program alignment with university strategic initiatives
