The University of Idaho’s School of Health & Medical Professions (SHAMP), Idaho Office of Underserved and Rural Medical Research (IOURMR) is seeking 1 postdoctoral fellow to join a dynamic Research and Evaluation team. This team engages in ambitious, multi-year, multi-site research to improve the health of Idaho’s underserved and rural communities through the purposeful integration of medical education, research, and service to advance clinical practice and patient care in Idaho.
Position Overview
Postdoctoral research fellows will work closely with and report to the SHAMP Associate Director of Medical Research, Dr. Russell Baker, and support SHAMP IOURMR outreach programs: Project Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes [ECHO] Idaho, North Idaho Area Health Education Center [NI-AHEC], and the Office of Continuing Education (CE). Postdoctoral research fellows’ primary responsibilities will be supporting currently funded grant and gift projects, as well as developing and conducting research and evaluation efforts for IOURMR outreach programs. Postdoctoral research fellows will also have opportunities to collaborate with students, faculty, and staff in the School of Health and Medical Professions, and state and federal agencies.
Postdoctoral research fellows will support grant writing, project design, and development of reports and publications. Working with the Research and Evaluation team, postdoctoral research fellows will assist with research efforts, produce technical and non-technical written products, dissemination reports, and present findings. Opportunities for independent research, report development, and publication under Dr. Baker will also be available. This position offers skill development in interdisciplinary research, project management, written and oral communication, creativity, and networking, as well as meeting facilitation. Postdoctoral research fellows will also assist with academic teaching and gain mentoring experience by supporting research methods coursework and providing research support (e.g., data analysis, research design) for student and faculty projects in SHAMP.
Ideal candidates will have earned a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., sociology, psychology, public health, health science, education, epidemiology, exercise science), have a strong research background using survey, qualitative, quantitative or mixed methods approaches, and excellent written communication skills. The anticipated start date for the positions is July 2025

Required Experience
- A Ph.D. or equivalent in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., sociology, public health, health science, education, epidemiology, psychology, exercise science, etc.).
- Experienced researcher using survey, qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods approaches.
- Experienced writer and communicator for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- A Ph.D. or equivalent in a scientific discipline.
- Potential for long and weekend hours.
- Expectation of travel throughout the State of Idaho.
- Experience with survey design and assessing psychometric properties of instruments (e.g., patient-report outcome instruments, etc.).
- Familiarity with population health, social determinants of health, and implementation science.
- One or more first- or co-authored publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
- Experience mentoring or supporting student-led research projects.
- Experience leading or supporting academic courses, especially in research methods or data analysis.
- Proficiency with data analytic programs (e.g., Stata, SPSS, AMOS, SAS, R/Python, etc.).
- Experience translating and disseminating research findings to broader audiences (e.g., business leaders, policymakers, educators).
