****Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawaii may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees (i.e. paid holidays/leave). Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.
Title: (Casual Hire) Educational Specialist (TLC / Hale Kea Testing Center)
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist with the general operation of the Learning and Testing Center.
- Assist with developing and implementing tutoring, testing, and other academic support activities.
- Assist with recruitment, training, scheduling, evaluation, and supervision of all Learning and Testing Center student employees.
- Assist with maintaining student employee work schedules.
- Reconciles student employees work logs with UH SECE timesheet before approving.
- Secures all student employee personnel files in accordance with applicable rules and regulations, including but not limited to FERPA.
- Assist in maintaining all records of center usage, tutoring, and testing.
- Assist in preparing, initiating, and completing assessment activities/reports including annual reports for program review.
- Assists students in all areas of service that TLC provides, associated with academic success.
- Hours may include working outside of normally scheduled hours, including nights and weekends.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Possession of a baccalaureate degree.
- Functional knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques in the area of testing and academic support demonstrated by knowledge, understanding, and ability to apply concepts and terminology.
- Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and systems associated with the area of testing and academic support.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes, and resolve the full range of problems that may commonly occur in the area of testing and academic support.
- Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members, and individuals.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience using Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and PC Mac software.
- Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.

- Experience working with a diverse student population.
- Experience working in an academic support setting.
- Experience supervising student employees.
