The Office of Admissions at CU Boulder invites applications for a Senior Assistant Director of Slate! This position reports to the Associate Director of Systems and Technology and maintains the undergraduate instance of the Technolutions Slate system for the Office of Admissions.
This position directly supervises a team of four advanced Slate administrators and is responsible for their ongoing performance management, development, and support. This role balances staff leadership with operational oversight, including coaching team members, coordinating priorities, and supporting an effective and engaged team.
As a member of the Admissions Operations leadership team, this position collaborates closely with the Associate Director of Systems and Technology to lead the Slate Team in designing, building, and implementing CRM solutions. This includes overseeing collaboration to develop new functionality, establishing timelines, guiding process development, and ensuring appropriate testing, documentation, and training.
The Senior Assistant Director provides functional leadership across core admissions systems and processes, including event and portal management, query and workflow development, web interface design, communications, application management and document management, data integration, and system optimization.
This position partners with a portfolio of constituents across campus to understand business needs, recommend scalable solutions, and develop efficient processes that support mission-critical university goals. The role requires a strong balance of technical expertise, operational oversight, and staff leadership. This role requires an individual who can effectively balance staff leadership with technical expertise while leading work through others. The role requires current, hands-on experience with Slate administration to effectively lead day-to-day system operations and staff work.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
- Directly manages, supervises, develops, and evaluates professional staff, including setting priorities, assigning work, and monitoring performance and outcomes.
- Provides ongoing coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback to support staff growth, engagement, and retention.
- Leads regular team meetings, establishes clear expectations, and ensures accountability for project timelines and deliverables.
- Oversees onboarding and training of new staff and coordinates ongoing cross-training to build team capacity and operational continuity.
- Promotes a collegial, inclusive, and supportive work environment that emphasizes collaboration, transparency, and shared responsibility.
- Partners with Admissions leadership to support staff development initiatives, including workshops, conferences, and participation in professional organizations.
- In coordination with the Associate Director, plans and facilitates team development activities, including training sessions, retreats, and in-person engagement opportunities to support morale and team cohesion.
- Oversees the development, configuration, and maintenance of the undergraduate admissions Slate instance.
- Manages Slate access, roles, and permissions to ensure appropriate security and data governance.
- Oversees data imports and integrations, including Common App, test scores, prospect data, and other institutional feeds.
- Collaborates with Admissions leadership and campus partners to assess business needs and implement system enhancements aligned with strategic goals.
- Leads the design and maintenance of complex forms, queries, rules, portals, and workflows.
- Evaluates new Slate features and functionality and directs implementation to improve system performance and user experience.
- Serves as the primary point of contact for complex Slate-related questions and issues.
- Leads and contributes to troubleshooting efforts, ensuring timely resolution and clear communication with campus partners.
- Applies deep Slate knowledge to recommend and implement improvements to business processes and system configurations.
- Oversees day-to-day system functionality, including monitoring user experience for staff and prospective students.
- Supports event management and other operational processes within Slate.
- Develops and monitors audits and quality control processes to ensure data integrity and system accuracy.
- Maintains expertise in Slate and related technologies through ongoing professional development, including Slate Summit, webinars, and community engagement.
- Develops and applies technical skills (e.g., JavaScript, CSS, Liquid Markup, SQL) to support system enhancements.
- Supports key admissions events, including Admitted Student Day, requiring in-person participation at a Saturday event held each April.
- Stays current on CRM and admissions technology best practices.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

What We Require
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
- Knowledge and advanced usage of a CRM admission system.
- Advanced experience working in Technolutions Slate, including at least 2 years of experience as a Slate administrator within the past year.
- Experience in higher education admissions.
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of progressively more responsible and independent management experience in a collegiate admissions office.
- Experience building and supporting complex configurations, such as queries, workflows, forms, portals, and data processes.
- Expert knowledge of configurable joins and portal building.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to diagnose a problem and provide accurate technical details, and where appropriate, workarounds.
- Excellent leadership skills with a strong commitment to mentoring, developing, and cross-training staff on the team, a focus on staff development and morale.
- Demonstrated ability to self-monitor quality control and accuracy.
- Proven ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to translate complex processes and jargon into language appropriate for audiences of varying comfort with computers and databases.
- Strong technical interest and fluency.
- Participation in Slate Summit and engagement with the Slate user community.
- Ability to work with people from a variety of backgrounds.
- 3 years as a Slate administrator, including advanced configuration and system management responsibilities.
- Certified Slate Professional.
- Demonstrated ability to lead work through others rather than serving primarily as an individual contributor.
- Experience with Oracle PeopleSoft Campus Solutions or comparable Student Information System.
- 1 year of supervisory experience for a Slate team.
- 1 year of project management experience, including establishing timelines, managing competing priorities, and delivering outcomes in a deadline-driven environment.
- Experience with OnBase or another document management system.
- Available to work a hybrid schedule rather than fully remote.
