The Office of Admissions at the University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for a Seasonal Reader position! The Seasonal Application Reader evaluates multiple application components to gauge a student's preparation to be successful at CU Boulder.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
- Evaluate applications for undergraduate admission as a member of the Seasonal Reader team and recommend admission decisions in accordance with guidelines set by federal, state, and institutional policies.
- Use professional judgment and resources provided to render admission decisions that align with the University’s enrollment goals and students’ potential for success.
- Assess academic preparedness for CU Boulder by evaluating high school and college transcripts, school profile, educational context/environment, quality of coursework, and standardized test scores.
- Review recommendation letters to evaluate academic potential, work habits, and character.
- Review essays to evaluate special circumstances, life experiences and dedication to the diversity of the CU Boulder community.
- Evaluate the time and talent required of various extracurricular activities, leadership, and work experiences.
- Assess quality and depth of these experiences.
- Communicate optimally with full-time admissions' staff regarding applicants, as appropriate.
- May evaluate international credentials as needed in their national/international context, determine equivalencies, and apply this information to the comprehensive application review process.
- May evaluate and interpret prerequisite course requirements for transfer applicants. Develop expertise in the transfer admission criteria with a specific focus on assessing whether an applicant has completed vital prerequisites for their program of interest.
- May evaluate eligible applicants for scholarship consideration.
What You Should Know
- All University of Colorado Boulder employees are required to comply with the campus COVID-19 vaccine requirement. New employees must provide proof of vaccination or receive a medical or religious exemption within 30 days of employment.
- This position is in a remote work situation.
- Seasonal Readers are forbidden to discuss the details of any application, even anonymously, in public, on any social media platform, or any other arena in which the public may reasonably have access to. Seasonal Readers are not permitted to discuss the evaluation process with anyone outside of the CU Boulder Office of Admissions.
- You may not be currently employed as a college admission professional, a high school guidance or college counselor, or an independent educational consultant/independent college counselor.
- You may not be the parent or guardian of a current high school junior or senior, whether or not they plan to apply to CU Boulder.
- You may not be currently employed in a full-time position at any University of Colorado system campus (Boulder, Denver, Colorado Springs, or Anschutz).
- Candidates may not also be employed as a seasonal application reader for another college/university.
- Graduate students are eligible to apply but are encouraged to consider the job expectations and demands of peak reading periods. Graduate students at any CU campus are restricted to 20 hours of part-time work per week (in all University of Colorado positions combined), per University policy.
- Candidates who are currently employed elsewhere in a full-time position are eligible to apply but are encouraged to consider the job expectations and demands of peak reading periods.
What We Can Offer
- The pay range is $20.00 - $22.00 per hour.
Benefits
Temporary positions at the University of Colorado are not benefits-eligible, however, all positions are eligible for paid sick leave.

What We Require
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Knowledge of and/or experience working with students from a diverse set of backgrounds. This may include but is not limited to racially/ethnically underrepresented students, first generation students, DACA/undocumented students, military or veteran students, students with learning differences, and non-traditional students.
What You Will Need
- Must be a quick learner and have strong attention to detail.
- Must be a phenomenal teammate, receptive to feedback, and willing to be highly flexible in a constantly evolving college admissions landscape.
- Ability to set up a home office with personal computer and high-speed internet access, and install vital University software.
- Must be based in the United States.
- Proficiency with personal computer office applications, e-mail, and internet, as well as web-based communications (e.g. Outlook, Microsoft Teams, etc.).
- Ability to learn software applications specific to admissions and enrollment management (Technolutions Slate).
- Ability to attend virtual Seasonal Reader training on designated training dates.
- Adaptable to a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines.
- Ability to work efficiently with minimal direction.
- Possess strong time management skills.
- Participate in regular feedback sessions with supervisor and/or as needed to ensure consistency and accuracy of decisions.
- High level of discretion and confidentiality regarding CU Boulder application review process and applicant information.
What We Would Like You To Have
- A background in secondary or higher education.
- Experience in admissions, recruitment, and/or application review.
- Knowledge of issues related to higher education.
- Experience with CU Boulder systems and/or application review process.
- Experience working with international students and/or transfer students.
- Ability to recognize personal, implicit biases as related to application review. Experience working to mitigate impacts of implicit bias.
