Job Summary
The Buddhism-Informed Contemplative Counseling (BICC) MA Concentration seeks Clinical Support Professional Readers (CSP) to assist the course instructor in the in-person Art of Contemplative Clinical Mental Health Counseling class and outside of class meetings. The role offers support with the student experience in class and mentors students in creating their Master’s Paper Capstone project. This is a one-semester appointment. This is a 2-credit course, scheduled to meet Tuesdays, 1:30-4:20pm and 8:30am-6:30pm on Saturday, April 26, on Naropa University’s Nalanda Campus. Semester dates are 01/13/2025-05/09/2025.

Course Description
An opportunity for students to review and integrate the Buddhist teachings while engaging in their internship experience. Students present clinical issues arising with clients and examine ways to integrate Buddhist, clinical, social justice, and other contemporary approaches to the art of practicing contemplative clinical mental health counseling. The course culminates in a Master’s Paper and Presentation designed to further the conceptual and clinical acumen of the developing counselor. Pre-requisite: CNSC871 Internship I: Placement & Contemplative Supervision and CNSC803 Buddhist Psychology V: The Way of the Contemplative Counselor.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

•Attend class meetings.
•Facilitate one student group’s Master paper presentations on Saturday, April 26, 2025, 8:30am-6:30pm.
•Facilitate discussion groups and/or small group work in exploring the writing of the Master’s Paper or creating the Capstone project.
•Review student’s semester assignments, offer feedback on content and writing style.
•Support course instructor in preparing for class, such as preparing materials (e.g., assessment instruments) for use in class.
•Confer with course instructor regarding students’ learning as evidenced by class participation and assignments.
•Support the instructor by tracking the group dynamics of the class.
•Offer examples of the material from personal clinical experience.
•Meet one-on-one with students as needed to support their learning.
•Review written and oral work of the students for understanding students' experience, without evaluation.
•Other duties as assigned.

What We Require

•Not currently enrolled as a Naropa student.
•Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
•Demonstrated skill in group facilitation, writing, and offering feedback for academic writing.
•Knowledge and experience with APA style writing.
•Ability to create and maintain a positive team environment and behave professionally with everyone encountered in the course and scope of the job duties.
•Ability to work both independently and as a part of a close team, working collaboratively with course instructor and students.
•High degree of emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and communication skills.

What We’d Like You to Have

•On-going counseling and social justice teaching or facilitator experience in the field.
•Familiarity with Contemplative Education.
•Familiarity with contemplative psychotherapy.
•Familiarity with Naropa’s Buddhism-Informed Contemplative Counseling (formerly Contemplative Psychotherapy and Buddhist Psychology) concentration.
•Prior experience with direct clinical work in counseling, psychology, or related field.

Physical Requirements & Environmental Conditions
Faculty members spend most of their time in their classrooms or in virtual meetings with some time in offices. In the classrooms and on campus may experience: interruptions, distractions, heat, cold, dust and/or dampness. As a faculty member, you may spend extended periods in front of students and speaking as well as:

•Reading academic texts and materials, student papers, etc.
•Operating personal computer and audio-visual equipment.
•Standing or sitting for hours at a time.
•Moving around campus for classes and meetings.

A comprehensive benefits package is available to full-time employees who work a minimum of 30 hours each week. Employees who work 20 – 29 hours each week are eligible for only the employer-paid short-term & long-term disability, employer-paid life insurance & accidental death and dismemberment, and the retirement plan, which includes up to 2.5% employer matching.

Employees who work fewer than 20 hours per week are eligible to participate in Naropa’s retirement plan only, which includes up to 2.5% employer matching.

All regular full-time and part-time faculty and staff, including student workers, accrue sick leave benefits. Full-time and part-time staff positions accrue vacation and personal time. All leave accrual rates vary based on the position, hours worked, and years of service.
