Job Summary

We are encouraging applications for an Outpatient Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner! This position provides direct psychiatric services to University of Colorado Boulder students as a member of the psychiatry team within Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS). This role conducts routine psychiatric evaluations, follow-up appointments, and crisis appointments. This role also provides consultation to a multidisciplinary team of licensed clinical staff (psychologists, social workers, professional counselors) and trainees on the provision of care for clients.

This position collaborates with other campus departments as needed for the treatment of CAPS students and ensures individual experiences, identities, and systemic factors are considered in all assessment, treatment referral, and training services provided.

Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) supports the well-being, mental health, and academic success of students by providing comprehensive clinical care, consultation, and outreach to the campus community. CAPS also offers outstanding training, preparing the next generation of mental health providers. Our team is multicultural and multidisciplinary, drawing from diverse professional backgrounds and theoretical approaches. Responsibilities

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Clinical Duties

  • Conduct new patient psychiatric evaluations, ongoing psychiatry treatment, follow-up appointments, and crisis care.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests.
  • Review critical lab results, as needed.
  • Provide psychiatric consultations to medical providers within Student Life Health and Wellbeing (including MDs, NPs, RNs).
  • Provide consultation with non-medical CAPS providers (including social workers, psychologists, LPCs, LMFTs).
  • Provide supervision to the psychiatry trainees and junior medical staff, as needed.

Administrative And Other Responsibilities

  • Complete medical records in a timely manner, in compliance with professional standards and internal policies.
  • Participate in Peer Reviews to ensure quality of care.
  • Attend required staff and team meetings, committee meetings, etc.
  • Represent CAPS and the psychiatry team with campus partners, when requested.

What You Should Know

Clinic hours are Monday-Friday 8am - 5pm. Flexible scheduling within this time frame available and up to supervisor approval. Hybrid work schedule with three days in office and two days remote option.

What We Can Offer

The salary range for this position is $127,200 - $158,995 annually. Onboarding assistance is available within Student Life division guidelines.

What We Require

  • Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing from a program accredited by the American Nurses Association or the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
  • Current Registration in the State of Colorado as an Advanced Practice Nurse by start date.
  • Certification as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner from the American Nurse’s Credentialing Center by start date.
  • Full Prescriptive Authority by date of hire.
  • Eligible for Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration.
  • Eligibility to acquire medical liability insurance (as needed).

What You Will Need

  • Basic functional computer skills (experience with Windows based systems, electronic health records).
  • Demonstrated multicultural competence and dedication to a multicultural organizational development.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent social skills.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • 2 years of experience in psychiatric practice.
  • Experience providing assessment and treatment of substance use disorders and/or eating disorders.
  • Experience with diagnosis and treatment of ADHD.
  • Ability to conduct sessions to patients in a language other than English; Spanish, Chinese, or Arabic preferred.
  • Experience working with college students and/or in a university counseling center.
  • Experience working with BIPOC, LGBTQ , international and underserved populations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to multicultural and social justice issues.
  • Desire to work in a collaborative multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Experience providing training, consultation, and supervision to trainees.
  • Experience providing services through telepsychiatry strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary clinic setting.
