The Department of Journalism in the College of Communication, Media, Design and Information (CMDI) at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a tenure-track professor of journalism studies at the assistant rank.
The successful candidate will identify within the broad field of journalism studies, but specialize in, potentially, one of the following areas: media law and ethics; AI and journalism; local, community or rural journalism; new business models in journalism; political communication; broadcast journalism; or visual storytelling.
The successful candidate must be well-grounded in journalism studies and open to creative interchange with colleagues practicing a variety of qualitative, quantitative and practice-based methodologies while researching and teaching journalism and media through both a social science and humanistic approach. They should also have demonstrated commitment to inclusive pedagogies and the mentoring of a diverse range of undergraduate and graduate students. The department prefers candidates with undergraduate-level teaching experience in journalism skills or journalism studies courses. The position is 40% teaching, 40% research, and 20% service and involves teaching two classes per semester.
The position will begin in August of 2026.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
The University of Colorado Boulder has implemented a reference check program with respect to final candidates for tenured faculty appointments. The reference check program is intended to allow CU Boulder to collect and review information about a candidate's conduct at their current and previous institutions, specifically conduct related to sexual misconduct, harassment, and/or discrimination – before making hiring decisions. All final candidates for tenured faculty appointments are required to complete an Authorization to Release Information.
What We Can Offer
The annual salary range for this position is $80,000 - $90,000.
