The University of Central Oklahoma seeks a full-time Recording Engineer and Production Services Director to manage all audio and video recording activities in the School of Music. The successful candidate will have strong skills in recording live music in classical and jazz styles, have some experience or interest in learning how to record and stream video of live music and theatrical performances, and complete post-processing of audio and video for distribution to students, faculty, and UCO’s streaming service. Applicants should have experience recording a variety of styles of music, familiarity with audio and video recording equipment, strong audio and video post-production skills using Avid Pro Tools and Adobe Premiere, and strong time management skills. This position will be asked to supervise a student assistant and may be called upon to help manage the Music computer lab in collaboration with CFAD’s technology specialist.

General Schedule:Position typically works 40 hour per week M-F 8AM-5PM, occasional evenings and weekends.

The pay range of $21.60-$23.50 per hour is equivalent to $44,928 - $48,880 per year.

Position Overview:The Recording Engineer and Production Services Director will manage all audio and video recording, post-production, and streaming operations for the School of Music. This position ensures the professional capture, editing, and distribution of performances, recitals, and events, supporting the academic and promotional needs of the area. The role also oversees student assistants and collaborates with faculty and staff to maintain recording quality, technical efficiency, and reliable production services.

Job Duties:

  • Record, edit, and produce high-quality audio and video content for School of Music performances and events.
  • Oversee post-production processes, including mixing, mastering, editing, and rendering using Avid Pro Tools and Adobe Premiere.
  • Manage live recording and streaming of performances in coordination with faculty and staff.
  • Supervise, train, and schedule student assistants involved in recording and production activities.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and update audio and video equipment in collaboration with CFAD technology staff.
  • Support faculty and students in recording and production projects as needed.
  • Organize and archive recordings for internal use and public distribution through university platforms.
  • Frequently required to safely set up/lift audio, video, and related production equipment (up to 25 pounds) and connect/route cables in both tight and high spaces.
  • This role requires accessing elevated spaces (ladders/catwalks/platforms) and performing tasks at height.

School of Music Overview:The UCO School of Music has a current faculty of 32 full-time (of which 24 are tenured or tenure-track positions) and approximately 35 part-time faculty, combined with a full-time professional staff of 8. There are approximately 300 students enrolled in degree programs that include the BA, BM, BME, and MM, within the framework of six divisions: Jazz Studies, Musical Theatre, Piano, Strings (Orchestras), Vocal Arts (Choirs and Opera), and Winds/Percussion (Bands). Qualifications and Experience Required:A bachelor's degree and 1 year of professional experience in recording live music and post-production or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Qualifications and Experience Preferred:3-5 years of professional experience in recording live music and post-production.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Extensive experience in recording live music and audio technology.
  • Extensive experience in audio post-production, including mixing, mastering, and bouncing down recorded concert audio using Avid Pro Tools.
  • Experience in recording live video of music and/or theatrical performances.
  • Experience in video post-production, including editing, branding, audio synchronization, and export rendering using Adobe Premiere.
  • Experience in basic sound reinforcement for venues when needed.
  • Excellent time management, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and patiently to supervise and instruct student assistants.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues in hardware and software.
  • Ability to recruit and retain students.
