JOB SUMMARY

This Staff Research Associate I (SRA I) is a laboratory-based research position focusing on animal models of acute lung injury. The goal is to discover more about the mechanisms through which lung injury develops with a focus on the innate immune response including neutrophils and platelets. Experiments include intravenous and intratracheal injections of biological agents, genotyping of mouse DNA, ELISAs, immunohistochemistry, cleared organ imaging, and flow cytometry.

The SRA I will work under direct supervision and with training provided.


DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Husbandry of approximately 150 cages of mice including breeding, genotyping by PCR and flow cytometry, and keeping detailed records.

Basic molecular biology techniques including Taqman quantitative PCR, ELISAs, total protein measurements, Western blotting, flow cytometry and cell sorting, and immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence.

Assistance in mouse models of lung injury and the isolation of cell populations from the blood and other organs. Assistance in tissue clearing and fluorescent imaging.

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree with a major in a related science and knowledge of, or experience with, the basic techniques or methods required by the position; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience in cellular and molecular biology

  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Excellent organizational, time management, administrative, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and multitasking

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of applications in molecular and cell biology
  • Knowledge of handling mice, including mouse colonies and genotyping
  • Experience with mouse experiments including mouse handling and mouse surgery
  • Experience with mouse husbandry and genotyping techniques
