Description:
The Kotas lab at the University of California, San Francisco is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to study the interaction between immune cells and structural cells of the lung and airway, including but not limited to the context of asthma. The lab uses a combination of in vivo mouse modeling and ex vivo and in vitro cell culture, studied using flow cytometry, single cell and bulk transcriptional analysis, and 3D confocal imaging. Postdoctoral fellows are expected to be problem-solvers with a positive attitude, who design and perform experiments, critically analyze data, and assume primary responsibility for writing and publishing the scientific results. Postdoctoral fellows are expected to apply and be competitive for intramural and extramural funding. Postdoctoral fellows interested in both academic and industry careers are encouraged to apply.
Qualifications:
Required:
· PhD or equivalent in biology, bioengineering or a similar field
· Proficiency in laboratory research, including experimental design, data collection, and analysis
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to work collaboratively as well as independently
· Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate laboratory records
· High-quality publications from graduate school
· Willing and able to work on in vivo mouse models
Ideal candidates will also be experienced in one or more of the following domains:
· Standard molecular and cellular assays including immunofluorescence staining, flow cytometry, qPCR, and ELISA
· Tissue / cell culture techniques including organoids, air-liquid interface (ALI) culture, lymphocyte stimulation or migration, and/or precision-cut lung slices (PCLS)
· Mouse modeling of lung disease, use of lineage-tracing and conditional genetic knockouts, and tissue processing.
· Computational analyses of single cell or bulk RNA sequencing, or similar

The Kotas lab is part of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Allergy and Sleep within the Department of Medicine, and is affiliated with the ImmunoX program and Biomedical Sciences programs.
