Involves patient care services for a range of mental health disorders, often severe including major depressive disorders, paranoia, schizophrenia, or bipolar disorder. Settings may be inpatient, outpatient or clinical research studies. Patient care may be provided by a combination of licensed clinicians, as well as counselors and crisis intervention specialists. Patients typically require routine assistance, treatment or a specialized and controlled environment. Primary emphasis on treatment and attempt where possible to help patients control their own lives in the outside world, with the use of a combination of psychiatric drugs and psychotherapy. This clinician has autonomous professional responsibility for 5150 evaluations, emergency behavioral health assessments, level of care determination, and interventions with patients and families.


Required Qualifications

  • Master's or doctoral degree in related area.
  • Licensed in behavioral health discipline.
  • Advanced skills providing individual, group and family cognitive behavioral therapy.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable laws and ethical standards associated with profession.
  • Advanced knowledge of diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication. Demonstrated active listening, persuasion and counseling skills.
  • Advanced skills in collaborating with heath care providers in a multi-disciplinary setting.
  • Knowledge of business software, specialized applications and EHR systems used in behavioral health clinics / clinical departments.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
