This position requires work as both a UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Supervisor and Central Patient Placement (CPP) RN, depending on departmental need. Under the direction of the Director of Hospital Operations, the Benioff Children's Hospital Supervisor seeks to improve patient care delivery through problem solving and crisis intervention, including disaster management on a broad level. The Hospital Supervisor is recognized as an administrative leader and clinical resource and is accountable for the optimal, safe, effective and timely bed placement of all patients at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals. The Hospital Supervisor utilizes nursing process for asssessment, planning, implementation and evaluation to assist in the delivery of safe, therapeutic care.


Required Qualifications
A minimum of five (5) years RN experiencePrevious Supervisory/Lead ExperienceBachelor's Degree in NursingRegistered Nurse in the State of CaliforniaActive American Heart Association CPR certificationActive American Heart Association PALS certificationDemonstrated skills to effectively supervise clinicians and to manage the complex workflow and multiple priorities involved with a patient care unit.In depth knowledge of patient care clinical standards and care delivery, systems, external regulations and internal policies.Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions.Strong interpersonal skills for effective information exchange and problem solving with all levels of management and staff, consultants and outside agencies.Strong written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to train and mentor subordinates, to convey complex clinical and technical information in a clear and concise manner. Prepares and presents a variety of reports, documentation, analyses, and project proposals.


Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree in NursingDemonstrates an understanding of and adherence to safety and infection control policies and procedures.Strong knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resources matters and performance, and to provide input to decision-making on human resources matters.Knowledge of business software and specialized applications and data management systems used in nursing units or departments.Knowledge of COBRA and EMTALA regulations

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

Required Qualifications

  • Previous supervisory or lead experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise clinicians and manage complex workflows and multiple priorities within a patient care unit
  • In-depth knowledge of patient care clinical standards, care delivery systems, external regulations, and internal policies
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to assess problems, determine appropriate interventions, and implement effective solutions
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with all levels of staff, management, consultants, and external agencies
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to train and mentor staff and clearly present complex clinical and technical information; ability to prepare reports, documentation, analyses, and project proposals

Licensure and Certifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association (AHA) CPR certification
  • Active American Heart Association (AHA) PALS certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Nursing
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and adherence to safety and infection control policies and procedures
  • Strong knowledge of human resources management practices, including training, monitoring, evaluation, documentation, and participation in HR-related decision-making
  • Experience with business software, specialized applications, and data management systems used in nursing units or departments
