Assistant Unit Director - Pediatric Interventional Cardiology Lab

Supervises staff involved in providing clinical patient care. Assists in ensuring the quality of patient care delivery in a specific patient care area and serves as a role model for professional nursing practice. Assists with the administration and management of personnel, fiscal, and material resources. May assume full responsibility for the unit in delegated areas and in the absence of the manager. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $221,500 - $241,800 (Annual Rate).


Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in NursingRegistered Nurse in the State of California.Demonstrated skills to effectively supervise clinicians and to manage the complex workflowand multiple priorities involved with a patient care unit.A minimum of two years of previous management/charge nurse experience in a hospitalenvironmentIn depth knowledge of patient care clinical standards and care delivery, systems, externalregulations and internal policies.Recent experience in recovering patients who have undergone a Cardiac Cath and/or an EPprocedure.Knowledge of pediatric congenital heart disease.Knowledge of adult congenital heart disease.Strong knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train,monitor, evaluate, and document human resources matters and employee performance.Provides input to decision-makers on human resources matters.Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze problems,determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions.Strong interpersonal skills for effective information exchange and problem solving with alllevels of management and staff, consultants and outside agencies.Strong written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to train and mentorsubordinates, to convey complex clinical and technical information in a clear and concisemanner. Prepares and presents a variety of reports, documentation, analyses, and projectproposals.Knowledge of business software and specialized applications and data managementsystems used in nursing units or departments.Extensive Point of Care testing (POCT) experience

Previous academic medical center pediatric cardiac critical care experienceRecent charge nurse experienceKnowledge of Radiation Safety (RHB) and working with Fluoroscopy

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise clinicians and manage complex workflows and multiple priorities within a patient care unit
  • Minimum of two (2) years of management or charge nurse experience in a hospital setting
  • In-depth knowledge of patient care clinical standards, care delivery systems, external regulations, and internal policies
  • Recent experience recovering patients following Cardiac Catheterization and/or Electrophysiology (EP) procedures
  • Knowledge of pediatric congenital heart disease
  • Knowledge of adult congenital heart disease
  • Strong knowledge of human resources management practices, including training, monitoring, evaluation, and documentation of employee performance, and providing input on HR-related decisions
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to assess problems, determine appropriate interventions, and implement effective solutions
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and collaborate with all levels of staff, management, consultants, and external agencies
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to mentor staff and clearly present complex clinical and technical information; ability to prepare reports, analyses, and project proposals
  • Knowledge of business software, specialized applications, and data management systems used in nursing units or departments
  • Extensive experience with Point of Care Testing (POCT)

Licensure and Certifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of California
  • American Heart Association (AHA) CPR certification for healthcare providers
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a pediatric cardiac critical care setting within an academic medical center
  • Recent charge nurse experience
  • Knowledge of radiation safety (RHB) and experience working with fluoroscopy
