Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Surgery – General Surgeon

The Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco is seeking outstanding candidates for a full-time academic surgeon with an exemplary record of patient care to provide General Surgery services at the San Francisco VA Medical Center and other UCSF Health clinical sites. Candidates must be board eligible/board certified in General Surgery at the time of hire. Applicants’ materials must list current and/or pending qualifications upon submission. Fellowship training in Minimally Invasive Surgery, Foregut, Hernia / Abdominal Wall Reconstruction, or Advanced GI Surgery is preferred. Candidates should also have expertise in open, laparoscopic, and robotic surgery.
Candidates will develop and grow a focused elective general surgery practice primarily located at the San Francisco VA Medical Center, including outpatient clinic sessions and scheduled OR days, while providing emergency general surgery call coverage for urgent and emergent consults. Furthermore, candidates will be expected to perform daily inpatient rounds for elective and emergency general surgery patients, in collaboration with General Surgery teams, and will provide surgical services at associated outpatient surgery centers. Candidates may also have the opportunity for clinical work and EGS call at other UCSF Health sites.
Candidates will achieve and maintain privileges and competency in standard open general surgery, surgical endoscopy, and robotic and minimally invasive techniques at all associated sites.
Candidates will collaborate with surgical leadership and multidisciplinary teams to participate in quality improvement initiatives and ensure comprehensive patient care. Candidates must have demonstrated leadership skills in health care systems and academic clinical program development. Applicants who have academic interests in surgical technology and Health Service Research are encouraged to apply.
Candidates must have recognized skills in the education of surgery residents and medical students and will be expected to be active participants in the Department’s residency training and educational programs.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5 . The minimum base salary range for this position is $121,900 - $405,900. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
For positions that are less than 50% effort:
See Table 2 for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $93,700 - $246,000.
For Positions Exclusively/ Partially Funded By The Affiliate Organization
SFVAMC provided a reasonable salary estimate for this position: $250,000-$400,000.
