What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ambulatory Nurse - Pediatric Cardiology (BCH-Mission Bay) position at University of California San Francisco?
Under general supervision, guided by the policies and procedures of the Medical Center and Ambulatory Services, and in collaboration with providers and administrative management, the Ambulatory Pediatric Heart Center Nurse works autonomously, utilizing the nursing process, to assess, plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate patient care within the ambulatory setting. S/he will utilize a high level of clinical knowledge to fulfill patient needs, ensure efficient patient care, and provide patient education when necessary. The Nurse Care Coordinator will act as a patient advocate and as a liaison between insurance companies, inpatient/outpatient services, patients/families and all other necessary healthcare services to manage and facilitate efficient and timely coordination of care. In addition, the Clinical Nurse Care Coordinator will assist in the development of patient care standards and practices.
The Pediatric Heart Center Nurse Care Coordinator is responsible for coordinating outpatient services and needs for a panel of pediatric cardiology patients and providers in the ambulatory setting. His/her responsibilities include both in clinic procedures, managing the Outpatient Heart Center clinic flow as well as assisting with insurance authorization and prior medication authorizations, contacting home health companies, assuring DME and other home supplies are adequate, assisting with medication refill requests, patient teaching and assisting in the overall coordination of timely patient care. This position is 100% in-person onsite. This position support patient care primarily in San Francisco and as needed in Oakland and satellite clinics.
Required Qualifications:
- Five (5) or more years of recent pediatric cardiac inpatient nursing experience
- Recent experience working in an out-patient/ambulatory setting
- Ability to obtain CCS paneling within a year of hire
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN)
- Knowledge of Pediatric Congenital Heart Disease
- Strong heart rhythm interpretation experience
- Strong PIV insertion skills
- Experience performing Bubble studies
This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN)
- CCS paneled
- Experience with an Electronic Medical Record system, EPIC/APeX strongly preferred Microsoft Outlook Experience
Licensure/Certifications:
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
- Current ACLS Certification
- Current BLS Certification
- Current PALS Certification
