Department Summary

The LADCFS UCLA Academy of Workforce Excellence (AWE) is an ongoing contract with the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Families (DCFS), whereby universities in Los Angeles County with master's degree programs in social work provide training to DCFS Employees. The contract also provides curriculum design and development as well as professional development to DCFS staff at various levels on different child welfare topics, including but not limited to State Wide Standardized content for New Social Workers.
Position Summary

The Trainer/Consultant for UCLA is part the LADCFS UCLA Academy of Workforce Excellence (AWE) which is an ongoing contract with the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Families (DCFS), whereby universities in Los Angeles County with master's degree programs in social work provide training to new and current employees at DCFS, particularly new hire Children's Social Workers (CSWs), current CSWs, and Supervising Social Workers (SCSWs), as well as public health nurses (PHNs), managers and administrators, case aides, and other stakeholders. Serves as a subject matter expert in child welfare legal practice and adult learning methodologies. Designs, develops, delivers, and evaluates specialized training curricula and simulation-based learning experiences. Provides instructional leadership, coaching, and consultation to trainers and stakeholders to ensure high-quality training delivery and learner outcomes. The trainer/consultant also develops curriculum on a variety of child welfare topics present to DCFS employees at various levels within the organization as well as assist in delivering Seminars to DCFS Interns. This position reports to the Training Director but is expected to perform at a high degree of professionalism and autonomy. Master's degree in social work or closely related field, expertise in child welfare and training (live and virtual) experience as well as strong project management skills, interpersonal, presentation, collaboration, and facilitation skills are required.

Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years Subject matter expertise in creating, developing, and training on legal related topics in public child welfare. (Required)
  • Demonstrated Training and Curriculum Development experience. (Preferred)
  • Expert knowledge of the "ins and outs" of the child welfare legal system, including dependency law, court rules and procedures, evidentiary standards, legal timelines, and statutory mandates governing child protection cases. Proven ability to interpret and operationalize complex legal requirements. (Required)
  • Demonstrated work ethic, personal responsibility for completion of work independently. Strong interpersonal, teaming and collaboration skills. (Preferred)
  • Advanced knowledge of adult learning theory, curriculum development methodologies and training evaluation techniques. Ability to apply it in training delivery. (Required)
  • Excellent communication, presentation, engagement, and facilitation skills. (Required)
  • Familiarity with Los Angeles DCFS policy and procedures, practice, mission, and practice model. (Preferred)
  • Commitment to diversity and cultural humility, culturally competent practice. (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor. (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, multi-task, and handle multiple assignment in short time frames. (Required)
  • Excellent writing, editing, grammatical skills as well as familiarity with powerpoint, excel, word and computer savvy. (Required)

  • Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

  • Bachelor's Degree in political science, economics, public administration, business administration, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (Required)
  • Master's Degree in social work, social science or related field. (Preferred) And
  • Other Type of Degree LCSW or DSW (Preferred)
  • Juris Doctor (JD) Degree (Preferred) Or
