Department Summary

The Office of the Dean of Students and the Office of Student Conduct are dedicated to supporting students through every step of their academic journey, including navigating the conduct process and addressing grievances. Students receive personalized assistance to ensure that they understand their rights and responsibilities, are aware of resources and receive guidance to help them make informed decisions. Through working closely with campus partners to promote a fair and respectful environment, the Office of the Dean of Students and the Office of Student Conduct foster personal growth and accountability.
Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Dean of Students, Responsible for the application of the Student Conduct Code and the Student Group Conduct Code, including review and adjudication of all matters referred for disciplinary action. Mediates campus-related disputes; counsels and makes referrals for students with grievances; researches and drafts recommendations for policies and procedures related to student conduct-related matters; advises honor societies; develops and presents to the University community educational programs on student conduct-related issues; and serves on various campus-wide committees. This role provides strategic direction and leadership to the Office of Student Conduct, aligning mission and goals with divisional and organizational objectives, managing staff, departmental budget, and analyzing data trends. Plays key roles in campus Consultation and Response Team and Title IX Case Management Teams.

Qualifications

  • 6-8 years Conduct Experience (Required)
  • 3-6 years Experience directly working with students in higher education setting (Required)
  • 5-7 years Previous experience supervising professional and student staff (Preferred)
  • Prior success with strategic planning, project development and implementation, advanced skill in change management, ability to communicate and facilitate change within groups and individuals. Possess a high tolerance for ambiguity and uncertainly. (Required)
  • Managerial and leadership experience with the ability to delegate authority, establish performance standards, assign functional responsibilities, direct, manage, monitor, and evaluate diverse professional and support staff. (Required)
  • Demonstrated skill in employee selection, training, coaching, motivation, discipline, evaluation, conflict resolution, team building, interpersonal communications, consensus building, and position development. (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to assess and allocate resources strategically, prioritizing tasks based on their organizational importance, aligning fiscal resources with programmatic needs, and providing recommendations to optimize resource allocation in a dynamic environment. (Required)
  • Demonstrated skill administering and adjudicating undergraduate and graduate student conduct matters with fairness and impartiality. (Required)
  • Advanced knowledge of due process requirements in student discipline matters, and experience implementing due process in disciplinary procedures. (Required)
  • Advanced knowledge of and experience implementing the educational and legal aspects of sexual harassment and sexual assault policies and procedures. (Required)
  • Demonstrated skill counseling undergraduate and graduate students on a one-to-one basis to resolve University-related problems (Required)
  • Experience negotiating and exchanging ideas, information, and opinions with others to formulate policies and programs and arrive jointly at decisions, conclusions, and solutions. (Required)
  • Strong written communication skills including ability to compose clear, grammatically correct, well-constructed correspondence, reports, and informational materials, and ability to research, write analytical reports, and make presentations on issues related to student conduct. (Required)
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills, including ability to analyze data, evaluate programs and procedures, and interpret information. (Required)

  • Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

  • Bachelor's Degree Related area and/or equivalent experience/training (Required)
  • Advanced degree and/or equivalent combination of education and/or experience. (Preferred)

  • Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
  • CANRA: The position is designated as a mandatory reporter under CANRA. The employee must sign the "Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse".
  • Clery Act: The position is a designated CSA (Campus Security Authority) under Clery Act requirements.
