Specialist Technician (Teaching)

The role

Within our multi-award-winning team at the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, we have a vacancy for a Level 1 Specialist Technician (Teaching) to support the growth and development of the Centre’s technical support function. It is an exciting time to join the Centre as we look to develop and deliver new programmes, as well as preparing to move to our new facilities at the Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus.

You will join a team of technical services, working closely across academic and professional services teams to support undergraduate and postgraduate taught students in gaining core prototyping skills through practical workshops delivered both in and outside of the curriculum, as well as supporting the day-to-day operations of the new Maker Space in Temple Quarter. The role will also work with the team on the implementation of the operating model for the new space and in time, support the development of our offering in line with the strategic aims of the Centre.

The role will be based in Temple Quarter from September 2026.

What will you be doing?

• Work with key stakeholders to plan, design, and deliver prototyping training sessions, both in taught classroom sessions and workshops.
• Support the operational activities of the Maker Space to ensure a stimulating learning environment.
• Carry out induction activities as required for students/staff into the Maker Space, maintaining records as required.
• Operate, service and maintain and calibrate specialist equipment.
• Source and maintain stocks and records in relation to teaching materials, consumables and equipment.
• Write risk assessments and understand/follow all relevant Health and Safety guidelines.
  
  

The successful candidate(s) will be required to complete a First Aid training qualification.

You should apply if

You Have Demonstrable Strength In Some The Following Areas

• Experience of using paper and cardboard prototyping methods, including scalpels and glue guns within a higher education or workshop environment.
• Experience supporting digital prototyping, such as infographics and digital storyboarding and modelling.
• Practical experience with a range of prototyping tools, technologies, and fabrication methods, including 3D printing, laser cutting, model making, immersive technologies and/or electronics.
• Experience of supporting users with the safe operation of specialist equipment.
• Ability to support students and staff from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds and technical confidence levels, offering practical demonstrations and guidance.
• Ability to work collaboratively within interdisciplinary teaching, research, and innovation environments.
  
  

Additional information

Contract type: Open ended

Work pattern: 35 hours/week

Grade: G

Salary: £32,080 - £35,608 per annum

School/Unit: Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Shift pattern: Usually Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Some teaching requirement until 6pm during term time.
