Student Wellbeing Adviser

The role

The Student Wellbeing Service is a key team within the Education and Student Success Division that provides direct support and advice to students. The role of the service is to support and encourage students to thrive in the University community in a way that enables them to pursue and reach their academic and personal potential. We provide wellbeing advice and support, advice on how to develop wellbeing self-management skills and ensure students with additional support needs are engaging with appropriate support.

We work closely with our student support colleagues including the University Student Health Service, Student Counselling, Disability Services and Student Inclusion to provide a joined-up approach to enhance the student experience. This work is underpinned by the University’s student mental health and wellbeing strategy.

This role is a fixed term contract until 01/05/2027

What will you be doing?

As a Student Wellbeing Adviser, you will provide time-bound support and advice to students via bookable appointments. You will need to work closely alongside the Student Wellbeing Managers where necessary, to effectively manage risk and will undertake work that can be psychologically challenging. Students access the service with a variety of presenting issues, and a key part of the role is to coordinate support for individuals who are vulnerable, in collaboration with colleagues across the University and external agencies.

You will need to work on rotation to support the duty function of the service, responding to concerns raised by third parties. You will also be involved in proactive and preventative work which evolves according to the changing needs of our students.

• You are an excellent communicator and able to build relationships with people who are seeking help as well as our colleagues in Student Support and across the University.
• You can maintain boundaries, exercise appropriate discretion and confidentiality, manage expectations, and negotiate solutions.
• You have well-developed active listening skills and strong emotional intelligence
• You work autonomously, referring to more senior colleagues when required, whilst thriving in a busy team of people undertaking similar work.
• You have strong organisational skills; able to manage a busy workload and the work that goes with this including case notes, support planning and onward referrals.
